We are pretty excited soon to be new owners of a Four Winns! We pick it up tomorrow and are purchasing it from the original owner. It's got the 454 with King Cobra Cone drive (I know this might present challenges), only 135 hours, full camping canvas, extremely well maintained, marine radio, all the owners manuals, original tandem axle trailer, interior is in good condition, tube, life vests, etc. and the guy really seemed to take extremely good care of it.

The King Cobra drive helped us negotiate what I think is a good deal...$5700?? Seller is a nice guy and said he and his family were more cove hounds than run around the lake people, which is why the low hours. He let us take it for a good, fairly long test drive and no issues other than the tach is flaky.

Any advice or feedback would be appreciated.

Looks like a nice find. How about pictures of the interior? The King Cobra with a Cone Clutch is a nice drive. Much is the same as the Volvo Penta SX drive still being made today.

Obviously, there is a lot that can need repair with a 20 year old boat, but that is why the price is reasonable.

I'm sure you will find this forum to be very helpful, and hopefully you will do most of your own maintenance.

Topics you might want to look up:
Ethanol (E10) (can be used with carb engines, but read the many precautions)
Raw Water Pump replacement
Carburator Rebuild (buy rebuild kit direct from Holley if Holley carb)
Manifold / Riser replacement
Gimble Bearing and U-joints
Wood Floor with carpeting
Vinyl Care and cleaning
Cobra parts sources
Painted FW trailers

Welcome and Happy Boating.

Yes I would rebuild the carb with the holley "green" gaskets and diaphragm so you're ethanol safe. What came in that boat isn't e10 compat.

That boat looks very well cared for. The main issue will be getting parts for the OMC cone clutch drive. I'd try to get things like raw water impellers, gaskets for the drain and fill plugs on the drive, and any gaskets needed when the drive gets pulled for maintenance.

One of the best sources for hard to find OMC parts is a place called Sea Way Marine in Washington State. I was able to get an 'no longer available' thermostatic choke spring from them for my 88 Cobra just recently, and the guy I spoke to told me they have quite a stockpile of parts. I'd give em a call and see what you are likely to need.

I don't have any pics of the interior, but will take a few this weekend. The interior is in good condition with 2 small tears, cooler rash, and 3 or 4 seams that are starting to stretch. Not too bad for 20 year old boat.

I called around here locally and I'm fortunate to have a marine shop that has quite a few parts for the cone drives and worked on them for many years. Also found a guy at Table Rock Lake, which is where we will spend most of our time and he is experienced with the KC Cone. Figured I'd better do my best to mitigate that risk as much as I could before I bought the boat....

I've done a bit of reading on the E10 deal and will look into rebuilding the Holley with the green gaskets. I've been a hot rodder for a while and have rebuilt my fair share of Holley's so I was glad to see it had one.

Hey, another KC/Table Rock FW owner. Awesome! I'm in Olathe. There are a couple of others here too.

Just this friendly bit of advice, for anyone who works on cars: boats are not cars. A key reason your boat is in the condition that it's in, is that the original owners didn't try to "improve" it with a bunch of stuff they thought would give them another 40mph.
