I do all my own water system and leave the engines for our marina.. $150/engine money well spent |

Drain all water from the engine and backfill with -50 Marine Antifreeze. Do the same with all fresh water systems, fog the engine, change oil and filter, outdrive oil as well. Wash, wax and then I Shrinkwrap her. She's sound asleep until March. Oh yeah, I have Dri-z-air in the cabin, open all cabinets, etched. Batteries inside on trickle chargers... Good luck |

I've done it myself for 10 years worth of boating, I do it in stages. First day is engine/drive oil change, engine fog and fill with antifreeze. Next day is remove the drive, check bellows etc. Last day is remove bow and cockpit covers, put on the winter cover with frame underneath to keep it from caving in from snow loads. |

I pay my dealer to do it. Our insurance policy actually states that it must be winterized by a certified marine mechanic or marina, or there will be no coverage for a loss from freezing damage. This is a common clause from what I understand, at least up north. So, have a look at your insurance policies! |

Evil you are John.... Pure evil.....  The ice fishing is pretty poor right now LOL Looking forward to seeing how many guys punch their pickup trucks through the ice 2 weeks after it freezes this year. It happens every year. They just don't seem to understand when the ice fishing season starts, there might not be enough ice to support their pickup truck just yet... I prep'd myself for winter by buying another boat! I bought a Zodiac Cadet 310 Solid with a 9.9 Yamaha for backwater exploring. Easy to throw in the back of the Jeep and go wherever. Only about 7 months till I can try it...  My brother was selling it as he was having problems with his back and wasn't using it. It's 3 years old and barely used.

I was an undecided slacker. Then reports of a chill coming this weekend forced my hand. I bought 6 gallons of marine -50, poured in in a bucket with a pump, ran motor on the hose till I was sure the thermostat was open. Opened and drained the petcocks on the block, then hooked the hose to the pump in the bucket with the anti freeze ran the motor and the pump till anti freeze was clearly coming out of the exhaust and opened a petcock to be sure it was in the block as well. Fogged cylinders as we shut it down, unhooked battery and will change the oil this week. Thankfully, with buckets catching the antifreeze as it came out of the exhaust, I was able to winterize the SeeDoo 3D as well. Now, we just have to decide how we want to store it. It's under the carport right now, but we'd like that space for parking cars in the snowy winter. I've seen guys use big tarp with gallon jugs of water or sand hanging on the edges to keep it tight. I'm not worried about the tarp keeping the rain out, but snow can be an issue though, it's heavy. |

Only thing I would have done was change the oil. It is recommended you run the engine to temp then change it. Congratulations! |

I do my own shrink wrapping as well. Tarps, unless well supported, don't handle wet heavy snow well. |

Doesn't get too cold here, but we can get a couple freezes during the winter..i swap oils, fog, install impeller, drain block and manifolds, treat vinyl with 3m, shut down battery and recover...its inside so cover keeps clean....drop a few drier sheets in storage. |

will do on Saturday --hook up muffs, run engine to temp to get thermostat to open up, flush engine - shut it down - open drains in block and risers , disconnect all water lower hoses, drain, turn over engine a few times, reconnect hoses, flush out bilge, pull batteries couple dryer sheets in holds and cover it back up, then wait for warmer weather. I do my oil changes, fuel filters etc. in spring as little time I put on engine. |
