My sons left the flush cap off after putting the boat away last time. The next time they took it out they forgot this and ran it full throttle for about 10 minutes before they realized they'd pegged the temp. I took it in and had the oil and impeller changed. Now it idles very rough. (temp. is fine) It seems to have good power on throttle but when you pull back to idle its rought. I'm figuring something in the electronics was heat stressed. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for any help. Oh yea its a 4.3 GL-C VP, carburated.

Also the boys managed to loose the shift selector disengage (plunger, spring and rubber cover). Anyone know a good suorce for these and also a parts schematic for the throttl/shifter assembly.

Kids, can't live with them, can't kill them.

I'd do a compression test, make sure they did not blow a head gasket or burn an exhaust valve because of the overheat. If you want em to learn somethin', then make em take out the plugs and hold in the compression tester while you crank it over. A low reading in 1 cylinder suggests bad valves if it does not rise when you re-check after squirting oil in the cylinder. Low readings on 2 cyls next to each other suggest head gasket. They ran it for 10 min at full throttle? The punishment for that, should be at least changing the oil filter if there is no remote mount, that'll learn em. That oil filter if not remote is in such a bad spot that's an experience they won't soon forget.....Is there water in the oil? Look for milky oil or milky foam on the underside of the oil cap.

Can't remember the the actual link I followed but the control is not manufactured by VP. Try to Google Teleflex or Morse SL-3 control and you may find the part numbers you are looking for. Nothing to add to the overheat issue, I think you have had some good advice already.
