Apologies in advance, as this is yet another bellows related thread! :P
I have spent quite some time looking in to this & can not find and definitive answer...
I have a 1997 Volvo Penta 572BPLKR engine (5.7GL) with an SX drive (serial # T0814309) and wish to remove it's sewing machine exhaust sound.
I'm aware that Mercruisers have exhaust tubes as an upgrade to their bellows:
http://www.mercstuff.com/exhaustbellows.htm
I've found that Volvo make a similar tube (part # 3587641):

I dislike douche-bags with obnoxiously loud exhausts on cars, bikes & boats and simply want a little more audible enjoyment out of my 5.7.
Might anyone be able to confirm whether this will work on my Four Winns?

Cheers! 8)

Yes, it will fit. I know because I went the other way on my Sundowner; from the loud version to the quiet version. The exhaust sound was unpleasantly loud on my boat, the extended swim platform seemed to magnify the sound.

I suppose another option is that you could cut a large hole in the bottom of your existing exhaust bellows...since it is not meant to seal out water anyway.

Personally, if I could hear nothing but the wind in my ears, that would be just right for me :D

If you like the sound then go for it...I've gotten to where I can't hear anyone talking over music or the exhaust though....too many trips to gun range I guess...the captains call exhaust gets used depending on who is talking and what they are saying.

Thanks for the responses.
I dis-connected the transom side of the bellows and reckon a silicone reducer from my local trucking supplies store would do the trick.
Is what I'm doing with this exhaust bellows a stupid way about going by this? :?

That's funny. I hope the admiral hasn't noticed that the engine gets loud everytime she is talking!

Without the bellow, is there a 'real world' risk (opposed to hypothetical) of having water intrusion in to my block if the outdrive is trimmed up?

Its really hard to say. While other boats are built with the configuration you are looking at, having the additional length of the exhaust passage way through the outdrive and out through the prop would theoretically reduce the effect of water surging back toward the engine and actually causing a problem. The biggest questions are what other variables would affect this and whether it would make enough of a difference to matter.

I reckon this bad boy bolted to the transom outlet might do the trick:
