Post subject:  Why is FW Better than Regal?

I do not mean to start a flame war or any problems here.... I've been lurking on the site a bit and amgetting really serious about getting a FW Horizon 240. I'm a previous Maxum and Chap' owner as well... I've always liked the lines, style, and quality of FW - and it seems the FW is just what I'm looking for.

My neighbor just picked up a new 2008 Regal. Now - I have to admit, the quality of the build is top notch. Id doesn't have a double stitched dash, nor does it have a finished engine compartment.... but it sure seems like a stout, and well built boat.

Regal seems to be up and coming.... and they have some nice options. Their 22 foot has the platform and is the smae length has the FW 240...
Regal's 24 foot is priced like the 240 but is 26 long...

So what is everyone's thoughts on Regal vs FW?

Regal makes a good boat. Just buy what YOU want based on features, layout, availability of service, the "feel" you get from the two dealers, etc.

We love our 240 but I wouldn't take anything away from Regal.

I'll admit that I do not know a lot about Regal, but I do know they have been around for a long time, and my general impression is that they are good boats, BUT, is there a Regal forum for their owners as Great as this one??

There WAS a regal owners forum like this one but it went offline a couple weeks ago.

When shopping for our 348 I found a lot of little engineering issues on the similarly sized Regals. Little things like finish in the engine compartment or tacked-on brackets to support the windshield came across like simple design mistakes. That and the 348 just plain rode better on the water.

I have never heard anything bad about Regal boats, but haven't looked at them either.

You'll have to take a very very close look. Before i bought my FW, I purchased a 2003 Glastron SX195. I thought it was a great boat, but after one year I could definitely see several quality issues with the hull. Fortunately, I bought it at a great price from the dealer, and I was able to sell it quickly and get my money back out of it. I purchased my current 2003 FW and it's FAR superior to the Glastron. Owned by the same company, same year, same price, but worlds apart when it comes to quality.

In boating 'owned by the same company' doesn't mean much. It's not like the auto industry (this is both good and bad).

You sure got that right. When I purchased the Glastron, I was 'sold' on the VEC hull technology. I'm not a believer anymore. On top of that, the interior wasn't finished nearly as good as my FW. I'm not saying my FW is the pinnacle of perfection, but for it's price range I haven't found anything better.

Good job Four Winns!
