Looks like you were the only boat out! Nice cruise! Judging by the sweatshirts and towels, it was chilly?

Coming in to the winter months down here, but the Yarra trip is quite protected from the elements... :)

Nice pictures. A lot of interesting bridges there.

This is a great trip to do when the weather is a bit ordinary. I often take friends and visitors to Melbourne out on the bay in the morning and up the Yarra River when the wind comes up in the afternoon.

You can go much further up than you went Daz - almost to Collingwood. Plenty of depth.

Did you launch at the Warmies in Newport?

Hey Alec,

I was told that Herring Island was almost as far as you could go?!
I was in 3ft of water at one point, near Herring Island! :?
Launched at Williamstown Ramp (after paying my $15! )...
Yell out the next time you're heading out! 8)

Hi all. Did that trip in Nov last year. Very good.

Managed to find the reef off Rickets Point on Sunday. Was travelling along at about 10kph and at low tide.
Too busy talking and didn't realize I was on the wrong side of the yellow marker (by about 50 metres).
Worth watching out for if you haven't been down that way.
Sure comes out a long way off shore.. My nice new prop now has a few scratches and dings on it. Panel beating next weekend. Weather was great though.

Cheers

Herring Island is abut the shallowest point on the river - if you get past it, further on it gets up to 7 metres deep. Average is around 3 metres.

I've never launched at Williamstown - I find the Warmies at Newport is perfect. I think it also costs about $15 to launch (not exactly sure as my wife takes care of this while I set up the boat!).

Packed my boat away the last week as I think summer is just about done. Will probably get out again early September unless we get a hot spell!
