My '90 Horizon220 has been exclusively fresh water all it's life. I now plan on using it exclusively in the ocean. My question is, do I have to change the anode that is on my outdrive? or is it the same for fresh and salt water?? If I have to change it, does anyone have a link for one?

Salt - Zinc
Fresh - Magnesium
Brackish - Aluminum

So, yes you need to change them. I don't know what drive you have so I don't have a link but you should be able to order them easily through any of the online sellers - marinepartssource.com, dougrussell.com, etc.

Zinc or Aluminum should be fine for you for Salt water.

As Mike said, choose the appropriate outdrive (sterndrive).

Are there any markings on the anodes to tell which type is on the boat now?

This is much more of an issue if the boat is slipped or moored in salt. Even if it's just a trailer boat in salt I'd still use zinc anodes. The Cobra has 3; the big one on the front of the gearcase, the one on the bottom of the transom mount and the small cube shaped one at the rear of the gearcase

+1

Saw Ric's suggestion on another thread and ordered from boatzincs.com. Zincs came in a few days and were perfect. Good prices, much cheaper than West Marine and others I found online. They are north of Boston for anyone local (which seem to be few on this forum!)
