I am considering buying a FourWinns 200 Horizon. I am in Ontario and have found a 2008 with a 5.0 litre VP with 96 hours for $24000 private sale. The seller says it has all of the options including a table. A local dealer has a new 2012 with the 4.3 litre VP with a 5 year warrenty for $34000. The price difference tells me to buy the used one unless there is a good reason to go new. Also is there any reason to be concerned about Genmar(?) vs Platinum ownership? I appreciate any feedback.

I would choose the 2008 with the V8. It has already taken it's depreciation hit, wheras the 2012 has not. The engine warranty is nice to have, but not enough to warrant the extra $10K for essentially the exact same boat. No real difference from 2008 to 2012 despite new ownership. Same hull, same design and layout, built buy the same employees that built the 2008. My wife and I enjoy our H200, but wish the cockpit space was a bit more roomy. The huge sunpad is nice , but takes up to much space IMO. We looked at the new 2013 H200 at the boat show this year, and did not like the fit and finish, new design, and materials used (very plastic and cheap looking). And priced at $40K with a V6, not something that we would have considered.

I would go with the V8. I have a 180 with the 4.3 and it does fine with 8 people on board and gear, but a 200 is bigger and more weight. I would want the V8 and the extra $10K buys plenty of maintenance.

Plus the 2008 will have no catalytic converter, which is a very expensive replacement item that retains heat and sucks horsepower. You can figure that $ 3,000 of the new boat price is for the catalytic converters and assorted pollution control items on the new model.
