Horizon 210, Has anyone noticed the awkward placement position of the tie down cleats? When I tie up to the dock the lines rub against the boat. I want to keep the gelcoat new. Also there's no place to hang your bumpers. My boat has only 2 cleats, one forward and one at the rear on each side. I'm going to use the U-bolts at front and rear, but those are hard to reach. How do you guys tie up your boat to the dock for the night?

I've never had a problem using the fore & aft cleats. But I do agree there aren't enough places to hang fenders. I've had it on my list for years to add fender hangers but since the main bimini support poles are in the perfect place to hang them, I've just tied them to that. This situation will be different depending on the model, the dock in question, water conditions there, etc.

I was tempted to hang the bumpers on the bimini top poles, but there has to be a better way. I used the passenger handle, but the line drapes over the rail and I don't want the line to rub the fiberglass.

Bumpers tie to the dock not the boat.

There are various types of purpose-made fender hangers available, but unless something has changed in recent years, FW doesn't use them. Some are plastic, which I would avoid.

I purchased stainless steel finder hangers that look exactly like the mounting hardware for the Bimini top. There are two parts; one part attaches with screws to the boat and the other part attaches to the fender line. This makes fender placement perfect for the boat and keeps my cleats available for dock lines. Search Google for fender mounts and stainless steel. I believe I got mine from Overtons.

I have never had dock or fender lines cause any harm to the gelcoat, as long as they are clean. (not full of sand)

There called "fenders" because you are fending off. In some way you are right, but it can't always be done. I have added small cleats on the boat just to hang fenders off of.

Fenders, thank you. Well, I'm a city guy, at least I didn't call the "line" a rope.

We generally always use the bimini pole, although the handle beneath it works well too....we launched initially this year without the bimini, so that was our only alternative....not great, but it works....

I have a set of Fenders permanently mounted in my dock. I also have a set on my boat for those times when I am tied up at someone else's dock or the marina...
