Hi,
My VDO dash (025-1970) recently went bad and CDI wants to charge me almost 400 bucks to fix it. Does anybody know of a direct replacement? Hopefully something with a modern look.

thanks!

I think most people with the VDO gauge setup are replacing them when they encounter problems. Here is a good write-up (w/pictures) of such a replacement: http://www.smwebhead.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9061

If you decide on the "make your own replacement dash" method, here is a link to a set of 5 new Faria Gauges that I have for sale:

The new one looks so very much better, but what's the visibility like when you are standing ?. My 1999 Sundowner had the VDO cluster and the same dash housing. I found it impossible to watch the gauges whilst standing; they were set too deep and were shrouded by the dash surround. The replacement dash looks like it might be the same. My 2004 Sundowner has individual gauges, but the dash surround is much shallower, so I can see the gauges whilst standing. I need to stand as there are numerous poorly marked lobster pots to avoid where I boat !

Thanks!

Talk to Dave at A & A Marine http://www.classicboating.com

They don't have an exact part number so fwd him a few of my pics or this post. The price will vary but my particular dash was around 550 bucks.

To me the dash sticks out a bit more than the old one.

Take a look at this video I uploaded.

What you see is the OE four Winns replacement dash for the
Horizon series as they know they installed a clunker in the boats. The VDO dashes are garbage . You can't put a car dash in a boat that gets harshly bounced around all the time . The dash came from four Winns . Very nice looking replacement. So far my VDO has not died yet. The speedometer
works when it wants to but all others still work ok .

Super sharp.............very nice!

I do have one question.........would white faced gauges have been an option?.......My Funship has white faced gauges and in low light they really help out.......

My Sundowner has light grey faced gauges; I thing the black faced ones are much nicer/ classier ! The black ones will be illuminated in any case, so why not have them ? My car has as standard silvery white faced instruments, great visibility in the day, also at night, but in the interim like dusk when the dash illumination first comes on, they are awful.
