Where is the best place to buy a temp sensor? Is there a replacement that could be bought at local auto parts stores? Thank You. |

I guess I'd go to a Volvo parts dealer. As a second choice you may be able to get a replacement at a local NAPA or other auto parts house. I'd take a couple photos with the phone camera and look for any numbers on it. Sometimes the phone camera can help by enabling you to see what you would only see with a mirror. Sorry, I don't have a part number. Just curious, ...... is the gage reading high, low, or not at all? I bought a new '95 190 Horizon with a 5.0 EFI that I ran for 18 seasons. It came from the factory with a 145 deg F thermostat where other boats may have 160 to 180+ deg thermostats. My boat frequently ran cold (maybe 120deg) due to sand or grit keeping the thermostat partially open. It was virtually impossible to flush it out and keep it clean enough to prevent this. One issue I did have was maintaining a good electrical ground between the engine and the dash, until I added another ground wire. If you have any doubt whether the temp sensor is working properly, there is a fair amount of info on the internet or in service manuals on testing them. Generally, the temp sensor is a variable resister. The resistance becomes less as it warms up. Pull the wire off the temp sensor and the gage should be on the bottom peg, touch the sensor wire to ground and the gage should peg at the top of the scale. You may be able to research and find resistance values to test your sensor. Good luck. |

NAPA has a marine side of their business and carry a lot of parts that an auto store wouldn't. If they don't have it at the store, they can order it and have it for ya in a few days. |

I just bought the boat a month ago and it has not worked for me or the previous owner. I am thinking that it might be a bad ground. I am going to try to ground out the sensor first to see if that's the problem. I may end up having to run a different ground also. |
