Hey all, Quick question , Is the trailer button ran off of a separate fuse then the trim switch, I have never used my trailer switch due to not responding. Thought I would try and get it working. ya know week day work on the boat just to have something to do.

One fuse; f your boat has a trailer button, it has an electronic trim limiter unit. That uses a 3 wire trim sender; if the trim sender is faulty, the trailer function will not work, It is usually the white wire from the trim sender, the one that I needed for the trailer function to work, that breaks off or corrodes !

Later drives do not have this trim limiter, (as they were not wonderfully reliable) and those can be trimmed up to the maximum ( no involvement of the trim sender in controlling it). It's pretty easy to bypass the trim limiter box if you need to trim it up more than it will go at the moment. On the later outdrives, if the upper trim limit had be set ( e.g. due to an ESP fitted) , it was done with internal inserts in the trim cylinders that limit their stroke.

I think the transom trim switch is usually a dealer installed option (or installed aftermarket by a previous owner?). So it could be wired to the battery with an inline switch. Not sure.

I purchased an aftermarket transom trim switch, but have not installed it yet.

Thanks, I will look and see what I can find. Would the white wire be on the sensor mounted on the lower unit? If so I know what you are talking about. Hell you could spend a season just working on the little odds and ends on our boats. lol

The visible bit of the sensor is a 2" disc, on the pivot housing on the starboard side ( the actuator locates in the bolt head recess of the pivot pin).

The control unit is a black box with 5 cables coming out of it
To Engine harness
To Trim switch
To override ( trailer) switch
To trim sender
To Trim pump relays.

I spoke with the Four Winns dealer today and they told me that my boat should not even have one on it and if it did It would not be hooked up. Thats funny Deafwish you say yours is not working either. They explained that our boats do not have the limiter's on them. He told me to pull it out and he bet there would be no wire running to it. So why and the heck would they install it. just for the kill switch mounted next to it.? :?

I'm guessing it's a recycled/ multi-use part, predominantly used for the kill switch!
Whether I press a trailer button or the trailer button, my outdrive comes right the way up!
