I need to buy all new lines for my 99 220 that I bought at the beginning of summer. I have been making due with ski ropes and some junk rope I had laying around and I feel like a bum compared to everyone else. I'm pretty sure that fender lines are all 3/8". What size would you recommend for the dock and anchor line size? 3/8" or 1/2"? I saw in previous posts that people have used and like mad dog products for these so I'm thinking that I might try that route. Anyway, let me know what you all think. Thanks. -Nick |

I just bought some new deck lines from them yesterday, and had the same question. When I clicked on the different sizes, it showed what rope size was the correct size for your boat depending on it's size........... |

IMO size depends a lot on the conditions where you dock, as well as the size of your cleats. The rougher the bigger, assuming your cleats can handle bigger. If you want some of the nicest lines out there, try these: http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/st ... fBF3vK3Nrg They run them on sale 2 or 3 times a year. |

Edited: sorry guys, I got it wrong. I just measured a spare line I keep in the boat bag; Since 2002 my dock lines are 1/2" and the spring lines are 5/8"; all double braid. The lines I use to catch a cleat as we come in are the 3/8" ones I used as dock lines for one season only in 2001 ! Quote: I've used 3/8" lines for both my Sundowners ( 225 and 245) from 2001. The boats have survived F9 + summer gales, so I guess the lines are man enough ( am I allowed to write that in these politically enlightened days ?). I do use a 1/2" spring line though, from the centre cleat on the boat to the 2 pontoon cleats, plus a 1/2" line from the other front cleat to a central cleat between our mooring and the next one.

I mainly boat in a small, shallow lake (deepest part is <25') with a mud bottom in central Illinois. But my family has a place at Lake of the Ozarks and also we go to some other relatively bigger lakes for weekend trips. I have whatever stock size the cleats are on the boat, I think 6" but I'm at work so I don't remember for sure. |

I would think that 3/8" or 7/16 would be fine for your application. |
