So, I've had this boat a few weeks. This morning was the 4th time out on the lake. As soon as I launched, I noticed the tach was reading 1500 at idle, but the engine sounded normal. Normally reads 600 to 700 per specs. Throttled up and tach read 4000 while going 30 mph. Normally would read 3000 at 30 mph. Again, engine sounded normal. Stopped the boat, killed the engine, and checked if I was losing the prop. It was secure. Trailered boat to house, but it was knawing at me. Took it back to lake. Tach all of a sudden read as it should from idle to 45 mph. Last week I secured some wires under the helm with some tie wraps...could I have kinked something related to tach?

Thanks,

Common problem. Give the tach a couple of taps and it will change. Mine pegs all the time.

Well, that would have been easier

Same for me. Runs high sometime. Tapping usually brings it back. I'm used to the sound of the motor now, so when it is reading high, I can usually determine by sound that all is well. I may send my gauge back to Faria for a rebuild over the winter.

Ditto for me too. A tap on the tach seems to do the trick.
