Hello

I am looking at replacing the starboard bellow on my Volvo DP 2000 298. This boat is new to me and the replacement is recommended by the seller. I have yet to inspect them. I believe he did the port bellow last summer.

I am not going to be doing it. I work a lot and outside of family, i dont have a lot of extra 'free' time.

What should be expected for parts and labor?

Depending on what else is done during service, if it's only thee bellows and they touch nothing else I wouldn't pay much more than $300 for this but, I have never paid for someone to do this service. So that being said not sure what the actual cost would be.

Under $350 for parts/labor + the cost of getting the vessel out of the water

ric is right. Last year for me was $185.00 labor and $45.00 parts and that included engine and drive alignment. Have them look at the gimbal & u-joints while the drive is off.

I'd replace both.

+1. I would think that the labor for two would be less than for one twice.

The OE Bellows (and I'd insist on OE for that part) is about 65-70 bucks. You don't have to replace the exhaust bellows underneath it unless its torn up. This job can be done without removing the pivot housing, but some mechanics don't like to do it that way because they feel that you get a better look at the sealing surface for the bellows on the transom mount which is important. So if he removes the pivot it will take longer than if he does not thus adding to the labor. I'd guess not more than 2 hrs labor unless there is a problem. So a little less than $300 by my labor rates (here most shops charge at least $100/hr.)

I'd do the port side as well.

Do both at once so you know when it's done.... but don't waste a dime on the exhaust bellows. If it's a volvo drive just remove it harms nothing and potential to gain a hair better GPH and HP
