Hi all, i have purchased a 1996 four winns Horizons 170 with a Yamaha 70 hp on it. I am considering replacing the 70hp with a yam. 90hp. any comments on this. Also due to the stepped hull on this boat should the shaft lenght be 20" or 25". the one on it now is 25" which places the cavation plate well below the stepped part of the back of the boat but just about right for the forward part of hull. Thanks for any help. |

It is designed for a 20" shaft. http://www.fourwinns.com/upload/Documen ... s_1996.pdf I would consider a 90HP the minimum for that boat. They came with up to a 130HP motor when new. Also, be careful with how heavy of an engine you put on there. The boat was designed for OMC V4 2-stoke motors. These are only about 320 lbs. Most 4-strokes are going to be quite a bit heavier. |
