Hi, The white pain on my horizon swim platform ladder is starting to chip away revealing the metal frame. Anybody repaint this before? If so, what would be the best paint for this? Thanks in advance! |

Are you going to remove the ladder and strip the old paint? Or just paint over? |

I am going to unbolt the swim step and since it is put together with stainless bolts I will unbolt it and then use paint stripper on it to remove the original coating.......when it's all cleaned up I am going to sandblast the ladder parts and then using a small foam roller I will then paint the POR15 white on it........let it cure for a few days and reassemble......... |

I would say, since it is a 2 part paint that it would qualify as an "Epoxy"............ All you have to do is follow this formula: Mix 1 part Hardener/Activator with 4 parts Whitecote. Whitecote Paint has a long pot life, up to 8 hours, if the lid is kept on the mixed batch when it is not in use. AS A COMPLETE POR-15 PAINT SYSTEM Apply two coats of POR15 Rust Preventive Paint over a sandblasted surface or a surface prepared with Marine Clean and Metal Ready. Then apply one light to medium coat of POR15 Self-Etching Primer as soon as POR-15 Rust Preventive Paint has cured to ensure maximum APPLICATION Apply a minimum of 2 medium coats for general automo- tive use, and a minimum of 3 full coats for heavy marine and industrial use. Hardnose / Whitecote may be applied by brush, spray, or roller. You can use any type of brush you prefer; Hardnose / Whitecote will fl ow out immediately, eliminating brush marks. •Lay down a medium covering coat, but be careful to avoid runs. A second coat may be applied when dry to the touch, usually 15 – 20 minutes later, though the second coat may be left up to 2 days before re-coating without sanding. POR-15 by far is the best stuff for anything like this, sans powdercoating. |

Hi, below is my thread about powder coating the swim ladder. Had to remove the plastic coating myself, professionals said it would clog up their sandblasting equipment. 95% just peeled off, 5% was superglued on and then baked for adhesion.
