About to pay the deposit on a 2004 H190. Has 4.3 MPI Merc 220hp, wake tower, extended swim platform, full covers. Has a double axle galvanised trailer, new tyres, and the lights and breaks all work. Full service history,

Anyone have experience with this model and motor? I last tested a 5.0 MPI and it was so poor it could not pull the skin off a warm custard but I think there was a problem.

Will the 4.3mpi pull a slalom skier out the water? any one know what the wake is like? I know it is going to be a trade off having a boat with the all round capabilities of the four winns, so I cant expect a tournament wake but is it ski-able. I slalom and barefoot (less and less as the bones age..) but the kids wakeboard, slalom, tube, and generally muck about on anything the can float or be towed ( blow up swimming pool was the last effort... until I rode it  ).

Nice looking boat! Never seen a cover come all the way down to the bottom, I like the idea behind it.

Hi meinmelb,
Recently sold my Raeline 186C with a 4.3Lt MPI Merc which would be similar weight to the H190. Power to weight ratio is great. Hole shot is awesome.
The Merc 4.3Lt is a quiet and smooth motor.
Are you by any chance from Melbourne Vic?????

Cheers, Craig

With a 4 or 5 blade prop' change, that should be a good all-round boat.
See you out on the bay! 8)

Daz.

She'll have plenty of power. My 19ft Stingray had the same motor setup. Did 60mph.

That boat has the standard interior though, that's too bad. The Sunsport layout is much more desirable.

Looks like a nice boat and I would think you would be happy with performance if properly propped..
Make sure you get a marine survey and test drive before purchase. A 10 year old boat could have surprises and it may not perform as you think.... Its a little piece of mind if there is no warranty from the marina or a private sale.

Looks like someone took good care of it outside so hopefully it's the same on the inside of the engine. Getting it inspected would be a good idea if you have the ability. It definitely will not have a hard time getting a skier stand up.

My brother just traded up from a Chaparral 186 SSI with carbed 4.3 and it pulled him on slalom. I never slalomed behind his boat but wakeboarded and it pulled great. Actually seemed to have far better hole shot than I would have expected. Not sure how the weight compares to the 190 but I would guess similar. His did have an aluminum four blade. I would recommend a prop change if you plan to use it extensively for water sports. Looks like a nice boat!

Thanks Guys,

I have taken the plunge and paid the deposit.... I know it is a risk as I have not seen it in the flesh but a good mate has checked it out. I will take it for a water test etc before paying though.

The boat is in Brisbane..I am in Melbourne so a long drive to fetch it. 1850kms to be precise (1150 miles) but we will stay over for a few days and have a play on the Brisbane Broadwater, maybe stop along the Hawksbury river for a night or two as well.

Boat has 1 19 3 blade ali prop, and a 21 stainless vengeance prop. Will look at a 19 high 5 as well.

Hi meinmelb
I recently bought my boat from the other side of Sydney. The good ones are never around the corner.
I paid $330.00 to have a full condition report done, including compression test etc. Had it done after I paid the deposit but before heading up to pick it up.

Hope it all goes well.... don't forget, it didn't happen without pics.

Cheers, Craig

+1

Within weeks of my purchase I was stuck on the side of the highway with a burned out wheel bearing. I always carry a spare packed hub now.

I hear ya! like many here I've been there with a failed bearing...

Trailer will have new bearings installed before I collect, and there is a spare hub with a new pre-packed set of bearings in the boat already.

Should be fun!

Cheers Mark

Congrats and good luck on the purchase.

Sounds like a nice long cruise to get it home. About 300gals of gas could get it back by water :D
