2001 Horizon 210 Volvo Penta 5.7Gxi DP Just serviced the boat with a new impeller from the dealer for the season. Used the geletin and cleaned the housing but when I put it all back together and dipped the stern in the water to test. It dripped from the housing quite a bit. All screws were as tight as I could get them and the gasket was in place when I put it together. Any ideas?

Bad gasket, debris between gasket and housing, warped plate, warped housing, bad hose, bad hose clamp, bad input shaft seal, bad O ring. Any one or all could be the prob. I eventually traced mine to a bad shaft seal. A few dollars from http://www.marinepartsexpress.com/ and all was good.

Try taking the pump back off, fill it with water and spin the pulley (slowly cause water will shoot up in the air :lol: ). You might get lucky and see where the water is escaping. Other than that, I would take it apart again, use some light grit sandpaper to clean the mating surfaces, make sure there are no burrs where the hoses connect, and try again.

"as tight as I could get them". <-- this could be the problem and might have crushed the gasket. Maybe a new gasket and don't crank on them so hard? I only tighten mine with a small ratchet and just to get them snug, the gasket should do its job. Not sure if your impeller is the same as mine, but it comes with a green and a black gasket. I use the black one, but I can't remember why...
definitely pull off the hoses and reattach first just to make sure since its quicker than opening the impeller cavity again.

Sound like the shaft seal, a $10 part from the Volvo Penta Store. It's easiest to change if you remove the pump from the engine, but it can be done on the engine.

Also, the bearing could be bad (especially since it is getting wet). The bearing CAN be changed, even though VP tells you that you have to buy the whole pump. Here is a thread where I changed the bearing and seal in my raw water pump:

The gasket on those pumps is actually an O ring. The impellor comes with a new O ring; it won't seal properly if the old one is still there as well !

The earlier versions of the pump had plastic spigots for the hoses pushed into the bronze impellor housing; I'm not certain if there was an adhesive there or not . Anyhow, it's not unheard of for these plastic spigots to come loose ( later ones were a bronze integral part of the pump )

I have had leaks at the o-ring the last 2 times I replaced my impellor. My simple solution was to put a little RTV gasket sealer on the o-ring before installing and no more leaks. Maybe I have a scratched cover or slightly warped cover but the RTV works.
