Yesterday I began my maintenence scheduel for 2014:
Crankcase oil & filter change
Sea water pump impeller replacement
Fuel Filter replacement
Outdrive oil change
Sanded the burrs off of my propeller
Changed seals between the upper and lower outdrive cases
...also added fresh 91 octane fuel with some Chemtool and Stabil
...adjusted tire pressures
Cleaned spark arrestor (5-17-14)
Inspected and cleaned cap and rotor

6-9-14
Repacked wheel bearings
Flushed brake fluid
Replaced brake shoes and wheel clyinders

Next:
Ignition service... wires if necessary
battery maintenence

I must have missed something. Chime in if you think of anything.

Go over every hose clamp, cooling hoses and fuel hoses to make sure the clamps are tight. A 5/23nds box end or socket will fit many of those clamps and enables you to get them tighter.

Clean flame arrestor.
Check timing if its not electronically controlled.
Check belt tension.
Check blower, bilge pump and auto switch

If you have drum brakes and are doing shoes and fluid, change the wheel cylinders for $25 a side while you are at it. They are usually what causes trouble with drum brakes.
Check pre-load on trailer bearings spin test for roughness and play.

I would recommend a 5/16" socket or a 1/4" if it is a small narrow hose clamp. The 5/32 will be a little small.

Check the worm drive clamps on the exhaust manifolds. I just found two broken ones.

5/32nds fits all the cooling and fuel clamps on my boat. There can b different sizes, just find out what size(s) fits yours and leave that size box end or small socket set in you on-board tool box...

To anyone with a Volvo SX/DP that has the P/S cooler right after the short hose that comes off the inner transom mount (same set up as an OMC Cobra), the hose is hard to get at unless you can remove a top panel over the rear of the engine (like in my boat). Those hoses probably never get checked or replaced but if it fails or pops off on one end as mine did it can cause one big mess. Even if that does not happen, an air leak can cause aireated cooling water and overheating at higher speeds. So check them all. Look at the cooler with a mirror make sure its not leaking. They can crack if not winterized properly.

Will a NAPA store or equivalent have a spare gasket for my thermostat housing? I put in an alternate water temp probe this spring and tore the brand new gasket putting it back on, being a cheap ass I of course tried to make it work but it leaked

I change my oil and fluids in the fall, she started right up after hibernation, hoping to get it in the water this week after polishing and cleaning.

They should have the same gasket, as the block is the same.

If you get a newbie sales guy, you might need to tell them to look a thermostat housing gasket for something like a 1997 Chevy 1500 pickup with a 4.3L (or a 5.7L as they use the same thermostat gasket).

5/16 on all "normal" clamps for me too, from marine to automotive to the stuff at work. 1/4" if it's a small one. 5/32 is REAL small! Smaller than 1/4" even. Never seen a worm clamp with one of those.
Here's a tip: Don't put high octane fuel in unless it requires it; you're just wasting money.

Coat both sides with OMC gasket sealer or Permatex Aviation Sealer, it will not leak.

Power steering cooler? I didn't know there was a p/s cooler.

Lou - Do you have a photo of the offending hose? I've got a Volvo DP, and it would help to know what to look for. I've never seen a power steering cooler before.
