An extra two grand just to hear that engine drone when cruising? No thanks. If you wanna be a poseur then get an actual go-fast boat.

Had one... And with the 496 Mag it was music to my ears (much to the shagrin of everyone else I'm sure)!

But then I grew up and bought a cruiser! Now I hang with the slow crowd :)

I love mine when I'm out "with the boys" but with the wife and kids I keep it closed. It was an option that I would not have ordered for the extra cost but it came with the boat I wanted. I do love that sound and heads turn when it takes off!

Looks and sounds just like my boat. And yep, I love it. I don't need to go 80mph or burn twice as much gas but that sound of that big block scratches my itch when I'm in the mood.

Ah, it has the option of being open or not? Heh, I'm all for the chest-puffing power of a throaty exhaust note. It's fun. I'd just hate to get stuck with that noise ALL THE TIME.

I had some exhaust cut-offs on an old 68 Chevy. Used to be all sorts of fun to flip them open (electrically) just before stomping the go-pedal when racing some punk in a rice burner. Scared the beejeesus out them as the white four door Impala with a 'vette motor smoked their ass coming off the line. The look at the next light was always priceless! Granted, if there were any TURNS in the road I'd have been screwed. But straight-line drags to the next light, FUN!

Now it's just the horrendous gas mileage I get stomping the pedal on my Hemi Grand Cherokee. Leave it alone and get 20mpg. Drive it like a bank robber and you'll NEED TO rob banks to pay for the 11mpg you get. I suppose the old Chevy was probably just as bad (or worse) but that didn't matter as much when gas was under a dollar a gallon!

I love the sound and I wanted… If I was still 20s then I could getaway with it. However, I am mid 40s and I have to think about others. I was not force the issue to my wife when we ordered our new boat with 8.1 over 5.7. I took power over sound. I wish I am still 20s….

 I miss my 8.1!!!

Oddly enough though.. I'd rather have a 5.9 Cummins in my boat!

Grew Up? I went from a Sea Ray 280 DA T-5.0's (which sank compliments of AIR-DOCK) to 260 Horizon with 8.1 Thru Hull exhaust. Is my wife happy, NO, Grandkids, YES. Like the comment earlier, I propably would not have ordered but was already part of the stock package and I bought new as a close out in 2007. Sounds incredible at cruising speed and at idle I find other boaters looking around for a Fountain or Formula.... :D

If it comes on the boat that is cool. I am not sure I would order it or would I? Ok I know I would love the sound.
