Hi my name is Chris and I purchased my first Four Winns , I have always went with Sea Ray and wanted to give Four Winns a try , well the boat has less than 140 hours and is in excellent condition, well my problem is I had the boat in the driveway for one day (usually boat is in a covered storage) and it was sitting in the sun, no rain just sun , well I went to take the boat back to storage and when I took off the FACTORY snap cover this is what I noticed, and yes I used the poles , I have tallked to Four Winns about this issue and sent them pictures well they told me there is nothing they can do and I should get in dyed, I am very disappointed that Four Winns wont stand behind their products knowing this is a factory issue and nothing I did wrong , makes me sick to my stomach that they would sale a boat that has this cover that can dye the vinyl seats!!

That is weird. Like you, I have recently bought the exact same boat and although I now have a custom cover made, I used the factory cover with no problems.

Its hard to tell from the photo, but has the dye from the cover somehow leached through to the sun pads?

That's nuts. I have the same boat with the factory cover and have never experienced this. It has rained here in Atlanta a good but with sun and high 90's as well, never an issue.

VERY common issue here in Florida, it's from the heat. Has happened to me a few times.

GOOD NEWS it's not ruined!!

Leave the boat uncovered in direct sunlight for two weeks. It will go back to normal. You can't use the dark snap in covers during the summer in hot climates the surface temps get over 180 degrees and causes the vinyl to discolor wherever it touches. Also anything inside the covers will also discolor from the air temps. It's taken nearly a month of sun to turn my white table back white after 2 days under the covers. It turned yellow.

If you want to help the process, I personally use Lysol mold and mildew cleaner in the purple bottle. It's bleach based and helps turn things bright white. Bleach doesn't damage modern vinyls it's actually recommended to use.

Damn I have the same color scheme and same cover and I've never had that problem. I'll be paranoid about it now.

Would a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser not clean up some of that? Of course you'd want to UV protect it afterwards.

Heat and rain would do strange things... We had a similar issue with 2000 Cobalt 206 which we owned way back.... Surprisingly Ric is right... breach worked and it came out... Anyway do you think Sea Ray or any other boat manufacture would do anything for 7 years old boats? We are lucky if they still make parts for the boat.... Anyway we understand your frustration but you bought a 7 years old used boat... I do not think Four Winns is not better or worse than any other manufacture especially Sea Ray on this kind of matter ...

go with a gray lighter color that breathes and a higher quality material that is not died. Sunbrella for example the color of the material is not a die it is infused in the actual threads and thus not a die that is adhered to the surface of the threads and will not fade of offset onto your stuff..

you can use some STAR BRITE mildew and stain remover and it should take it off.. available at WEST MARINE.


also as for the warranty.. as FW is not the manufacture of the actual factory cover they have no warrant to do anything about it.. they build the boat and not the secondary added products.. this is like going after FW by your old SONY cd player breaks bc of water.. well FW did not make the radio Sony did.. not if the hull separated hell yes FW will step up and cover their product as they made the hull.

Thanks guys for all the help , I can tell this is going to be a very helpful forum with good people, Im def going to try to leave it out in the sun to see if it can bleach back , and yes i tried magic eraser with no luck , Thanks for all the help guys!!

The red cockpit cover on my 2004 245 Sundowner would transfer red onto the seats. I could almost get rid of it each season with a cocktail of treatments. but the tint was still there.

I had the same problem with my Four Winns cockpit cover............fist of all.........I did not and would not use bleach on my seat cushions/ 7 year old fabric.........


What I did was, I left the cover off and open to the sun for a couple of days........after about 2-3 days the bluish tint was gone.........

Since the blue tint was only on the rear seat where the cover came in contact with the seat cushion..........I put a beach towel over the seat cushion before snapping the cover in place.........PROBLEM SOLVED!

Thanks I tried bleach but didnt budge it , so im going to try to leave it in the sun for a couple of days see if that does the trick, cant believe a factory cover would do that, I had the same type cover on my sea ray and it never happened once and it sat outside alot more than this boat has

So you say putting a towel soaked in bleach on the back will be ok with it, the vinyl is practically brand new so age shouldnt be a factor
