Hello everyone, last trip to the lake the speedometer was a no show. This is my first season with this boat so I contacted the previous owner and he confimed that the speedo had been repaired by a shop a couple of times and had always been sketchy at best in its prime. Its a paddle wheel set up and curious if anyone has successfully fixed their paddel wheel speedo or replaced with with something better? The boat is a 1998 180 Horizon and I welcome your imput. :D

I know this does not fix your speedo, but I use my smartphone with a speedo app and a phone mount above my dash more than I use my actual speedo. It is much more accurate and responsive for water sports. You could use this while you work to get your speedo fixed.

Thanks for the info, I will use the GPS as a back up, but i just cant stand looking down and seeing something not working. Having both is the best way to go for sure.

if it is the gauge, go directly to Faria. If they cant give you a replacement they have a repair service.

Not familiar with the paddle wheel setup, I have the tube type, but a sailboat I crew on has the paddle wheel, and sometimes we have to go in reverse for a bit to clean the seaweed and gunk off it. Maybe try that?

Sad to say but the wheel is free of debris and spins easily. I think I need a new sensor and pick up, I just need to find one that will work. Has anyone replaced their sensor before with a new one?

This might help you find another wheel:

I have a 2001 H180 with probably the same paddlewheel speedo. Mine also incorporates the temperature transducer in the paddlewheel enclosure. The part is a Raymarine e66019. Do a google search for that and a bunch will come up for ordering. Once installed it will have to be calibrated to be acurate. I'm not sure ow that is done but a boat shop should be able to figure it out.
Good luck Rob

Thanks for all the info, it was a very helpful. I contacted Faria to see if they had a solution and they sent me the part# to their speed sensor. Here is the part# Faria Paddle Wheel Speed Transducer
Item #: FAR SN0007
I will go with this sensor since I have a Faria speedo gauge as well, should go well with one another.
Thanks again for all the help!!
