Took my 93 horizon out Friday night and just didn't seem to run right. Didn't have the power and was surging 3000-3500 then about after 45 minutes seemed to run ok. So today put the muffs on an it won't rev over 2500 like it's hitting on a rev limiter. Plugged in the scanner and got code 11 and 18. 11 is system pass and 18 thinking is the TFI module going out or a spout wiring issue. Anybody else had this same code before?

Well after going to the parts store and chatting with the guys I know there. They had a couple guys come in for dry gas last week that just happened to fill up at the same station I did. So gonna reset the code, put in some dry gas and give it a shot again this week.

what scanner do you have? and where are you connecting? I would love as comparable scanner for my 93 5.0, with no OBD2 port I was stopped short and not knowing the answer i let it be.

Its the simple EEC IV Ford Actron scanner, it can be used to check the codes. You use the scan port the attached to the top of the MAP sensor bracket. I used to have a Ford Breakout Box for my Thunderbird SC but after going to Moates Quarterhorse piggy back (ie. turns EEC IV into basically full stand alone tuning system, not available for ECU used on this 5.0) I sold it. After reading thru the OMC factory manuals I may need to purchase another from Ebay as it looks to be either a broken wire, TFI module, or the ECA which is broken down step by step in the manuals using the breakout box.

http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16153 or you can get the EEC IV adapter for the more expensive Actron scanners, like the CP9185 that will give live data and OBD2.

What will your boat rev to when in neutral? Mine will not do over 2500 as hitting a rev limiter. I changed the TFI module and do not have a code after resetting the computer with the battery disconnected. I do not have any engine running codes after 20 minutes on the muffs. Guess I really need to take it out on the water and see if the code is really gone.

Was finally able to get all my issues resolved over this weekend. Replaced the TFI module with a new Motorcraft part from the local Ford dealer, which is nearly half the price for the same module in a Volvo/Penta box. Troubleshooting the SLOW mode is rather simple. There is an oil pressure sensor right next to the oil pressure sending unit for the dash and temp sensor on the driver side bank on the intake manifold. You simply unplug one sensor at a time then rev the motor if the motor now free revs that sensor is bad for the SLOW system. Mine was the oil sendor, which was also leaking thru the center, I looked online and found a replacement for $86 but after a quick trip to the Advance Auto its was an older Chevy pressure switch that costs $8. So now the boat is finally running like a charm after fixing this and the fresh tune up I did earlier this spring. We have put about 40 hours on it this year while the preivous owner put 87 on it in 10 years.
