While running the boat during pre-season checks the thermostat finally seems to be working properly (pulled some old rubber impeller bits out of it) and it gets right up to temp and holds at 160. One riser is hotter than the other, about 10 degrees is all according to the IR thermometer. Indication of anything to worry about or probably normal. The poor search function on this forum helps explain many of my simple questions. |

Its not uncommon for one to be a bit hotter than the other. Its more important to check them in the water under normal operating conditions. I leave an IR temp gun on the boat and check them every so often. At idle they are usually 90-100 or so. Running the boat, after coming off plane they will hit about 125-130 or so. They will cool back down to 100 or so after idling for about 5 min. If I get higher readings (like 125-135 at idle, or 160 after running on plane) something is wrong, and I go looking for the problem. |

Quite often one riser has an additional cooling water inlet that comes from a fuel cooler so it in effect gets extra cooling water , rather than just the hot water from the manifold.. Both my EFi engines had it (on the port riser, mounted low down), that riser always ran cooler than the starboard one. |
