For some reasons my power steering keeps providing less and less assistance. IMO it was difficult to steer even when it was brand new but I had nothing to compare it to except my old boat which was not the same size or model. I have not noticed any fluid leaks and my first guess is that its a cable issue or something loose. Even a bad installation maybe since it has been tough since new.
I have the following symptoms:

- Probably a good 30-45 degrees of play in the steering wheel (which has been there since its been brand new), so when you switch directions you go through this play zone before actually getting the steering to respond.
- Occasionally I get clicking noises which sound like they are coming from under the dash which would be indicative of something binding when I start turning.
- Power steering is providing *some* assistance because if I turn off the boat I can tell the difference

I want to unhook the cable for inspection but I cannot find a procedure for this in my manual or the shop manual that I have. Is there anything I need to be careful of?
