Hello All,

I just recently picked up a 2006 H183. Havent had the chance to get it in the water yet, but while de-winterizing it, found that the stock Clarion M455 head unit will only power on with the master switch in the on position, along with the key in the run position. Given all engine alarms are buzzing at this point as well, this is not desirable for listening to sirius/cd etc. While anchored and fishing, or basking in the sun.

Im not sure if this is the way it was wired from the factory (does not make sense if it was), but can some one tell me what color the accessory wire is, so I can wire the stereo in what I deem the proper manner?

I have done a ton of searching, and it seems finding this stuff on the google machine, is not as easy as it should be.

Thanks.

your alarms should only last for a couple seconds as they only sound at key power for a couple seconds to indicate that they are operational..

Many stereos are set to Key power which is regulated by he master battery power switch..

Mine is one master power and a rocker switch on the dash as that how it was factory.

Do the alarms continue to constantly sound when key is in on position?

Also powering the radio via a panel switch is VERY easy.. you have a single power wire that is running to the KEY.. the back side of the key will either have 3,5 or 6 screw posts. simply un hook the feed to the radio. Now HOPEFULLY you have a free switch position. You will wire this power wire from the stereo to the switch. and you will have a second power wire off of that switch that goes to the fuse panel. Pick a free one and add an appropriate fuse sized for the stereo. Now your stereo will be on off based not he switch..

I can further explain this in detail and diagrams if you are not formulae with electrical.

The alarm on my boat does not stop sounding until the engine has started, this is why i would like to change or alter the wiring.

Wiring in a switch for the stereo should be easy, I was just curious if there would be an easier route, or if the wiring of the stereo may have gotten changed, as the fuel gauge and fish finder work with the key in the accessory position, just the stereo requires the on or run position with the master switch turned on causing the alarms to sound and stay on.

Thanks,

Edit - that is odd, your radio should work in the accessory position. Maybe some of the wiring was changed?

Yes my ignition switch is the same set up as a car. From off, 1 click counter clockwise is acc, clockwise is acc-run-start. Radio only works in the on position, with master switch on. Alarms are constant until the engine is running and the alarms are all clear.

Yeah thats what I thought, so I was just wondering if there was a standard color for the acc wire behind the radio. That way i could wire the radio into that acc wire.

I suspect something is just miswired.

I have an '07 and my radio works in the counterclockwise position, though the depth finder *does not* and I wish it did. I have not looked at rewiring but I suppose it would be easy to change this so both work in ACC. There are probably separate terminals for each mode to which you can attach the wires.

In run mode, everything works and I get the usual 3 ULTRA LOUD BEEPS that will awaken the dead. I wish they would have designed the all systems ok beeps to be quiet while still allowing for a loud error condition when you need it (i.e. overheat) This is probably not trivial to fix.

OH OK this is an easy fix...

SO on the back of the ignition it will have the terminal posts as i stated before. Simply all that needs to be done is move your radio power to the same post that the power for the fish finder and depth is attached.. someone has the radio power on the start post and not no the acc post.

The Biggest reason that i put mine on a switch is that my shallow water alarm will constantly go off when backed up to the beach as i am in less than 4' of water if the key was on ACC notch. and to prevent this i put on a switch so that i do not kill people.

this should be a phillips screw driver and a 5 minute fix.

Let us know how it goes.

So to close this issue, I found the main issue with the wiring when I investigated.

1. Radio power was in fact changed to "on" position, rather than "acc". Rest of the wiring was OEM.

Now to upgrade all the stereo equipment to newer, better quality stuff, and get the sirius going.

Don't waste money on sirius. Just bluetooth Pandora from your smartphone.

exactly

How about Spotify? last year i listened to 94,792 minutes of music. my goal this year is to break the 100,000 minute mark.. this is all that i use.. $10 premium no adds no compression music and i have access to every (literally every band int he world) make off line play lists to not eat up cell data. it is the best.. For a music junkie like me that likes such a brand variety of generas. Look into it. much better than silly XM.
