I have a 1995 Four Winns 190 Horizon. I had a bad overheat last year. I replaced the impeller, upper and lower exhaust baffles. There is still a slow leak coming from behind the engine. I have not yet been able to determine where the leak is coming from. Any ideas? On a separate note, took the boat out fishing last weekend and the boat would just die while running at maybe 1/2 throttle. By the end of the day it did go away. I was thinking maybe water in the fuel.

You don't say if the leak is from the engine itself or maybe behind and under the back of the engine. If the leak is under the back of the engine it might be a leaking gasket between the transom shield and the transom. You will need the boat in the water to track a leak like this. It is hard to see, but get a bright light and look at the inside of the transom just above the drain plug hole. You can do a search on this forum and find a few threads on this topic. The '95 190 Horizon I had leaked there at about 15 years. The Volvo SX and DP-SM (and some other) drives are somewhat prone to this. The correct and proper way to fix it is to remove the engine and outdrive, then remove the transom shield on the outside and the mounting plate on the inside. Address any water issue inside the transom, then reassemble with a new gasket between the transom and transom shield. Before doing this you might try a couple things. Check the torque on the 6 bolts on the inside that go through the transom mounting plate, transom, and transom shield. Some other owners have been able to tighten these bolts, but they are a challenge to get to and it may or may not work. Another temporary method is to clean the joint between the transom and transom shield, then run a bead of 3M 5200 around this joint.

You might also check the hoses connecting the exhaust manifolds and elbows to the top of the "Y" pipe on each side. The flapper valves are/were mounted here in the top of the "Y" pipe. If the hoses connecting these joints are not installed properly you might have a leak from the flapper valve pin mounting holes. The hoses and hose clamps are supposed to cover the holes and seal them.

A significant overheat may have caused a leak from the block or a hose or fitting. Look things over closely with a good light. You may also try using some blue paper towels to wipe or place under potential leak areas. A wet towel changes color and may help track a leak. Hope this helps.

When was the last time you had the drive off to check the driveshaft bellows? Has it ever been replaced? They do eventually crack and leak.
There is also a metal hose that comes through the transom with a short rubber hose that goes from that metal hose to the P/S cooler; all 3 can be leak sources. If it's right behind the engine in the center could be the bellows; on the sides could be the transom seal.
