Are there any other components in the trim system that could cause issues with the relays themselves? I started with two new ones last year and by the end of the season it was requiring a whack with a screwdriver to get it to work. Swapping relays just makes the other direction not work.

Aside from possibility (rare ) that I got a bum relay....what else if anything should I I look at.

I have it on my to-do list to redo the wiring connections coming out of the trim pump motor. Last season I noticed that the "whack the motor with a 2x4" wasn't resolving the issue and when I flexed the wires things started working again. My guess is that the connectors under the shrink wrap have corroded (on mine).

Make sure you buy Bosch-Tyco brand relays and not some chinese junk from Autozone.

Also start with your battery cables and take a look at the ground on the engine. Then make sure the connections on the relays themselves are clean and tight, same thing on the trim pump motor. You can also have a break in the wire for the trim switch on the remote control....(blue is up, green is down)...
