Hello everyone. I picked up a 1993 Horizon 190 2 months ago after selling my 87 regal 19'. Just wanted something newer styling with a built in swim deck. Well I got that purchased for $3400. The day after I bought it maiden voyage it shut off. Engine locked up due to improper winterization cracked block all the good stuff, it ran great on water muffs. Seller claimed he did it right and was not at fault. Yay me right? So I bought a factory bore 302 roller engine block off craigslist and took my crank , rods, and gt40 heads to an engine builder. They refreshed it and put in a lightning truck cam. Now shes back and looks great. Now just about time to have it installed so shes going to my boat mechanic in a few days. In the mean time I have been redoing the interior and stereo along with a few other items. Getting excited to have it back. Have re wrapped most seats and bought new back to back seats for the middle. I will post more pictures as the progress goes.

Boat looks nice!

Sorry to hear about the engine though.

My mom and step dad had something similar happen to them about 5 years ago. They didn't know anything about boats but knew the Chris-Craft name. They searched Craigslist and found one in their price range ($3,500). It is a 1987 bowrider around 18' with 3.0L and Alpha 1. This is before I got into boats so they didn't think of calling me. They went out and looked at it and were sold on the story. The seller, around 20, and his dad bought the boat in poor condition, redid everything. Dad is a master mechanic, etc. They trusted the seller and bought it without a sea trial. First time out in the lake, the engine is toast. Another $3,500 and a couple months later, the boat is ready for the water again. They just paid $7,000 for a $2,500 boat.

Moral of the story, always sea trial and hopefully find someone that knows more about boats than you do to look at it with you.

Hey sorry no new pics guys. I took the completed engone to my marine mechanic . He installed the engine bolted up outdrive and started to connect things. I picked it up so I could finish it as he was busy and hey it saved me money. Gotta give rep to him for good work and good price of anybody is around mooresville nc Musgrave marine is the name. So anyways. Got all finished up and done. One issue I have no spark, so I'm guessing I have some wiring I did wrong or something. Going to get back at it in the am. Getting power to the coil, but not to the plugs as I tested with a tester. No spark out of the coil wire either. May jump the starter and see if maybe be woth my switch I dunno. I'll update with the results and get more pics uploaded

Lots of time into it the last 2 days. Still don't fire up. Going to have my ignition module tested or the shift assist module as its called. We shall see from there. Then after that checking the wiring behind dash as I did remove everything to paint the bezel. Thought I had it all right back as it was but possibly not.

Def leaning towards esa module as it seems to send ignition pulse.

Did you do the seats yourself? How big a job is it?

Just a thought...I had a similar no start problem. Turned out a wire had come off my battery perko switch. Turned over no problem just never fired no power to my plugs or coil.

I have the wiring diagrams for the older OMCs that used the points style ignition, yours is electronic right? Ford engine, is it a 5.0 or a 5.8?
On those models, the ignition coil + is hooked up to a blue/black wire that goes to one of the small terminals on the starter and the purple black wire goes to a connector that hooks up to the E ('excite') terminal on the alternator. This goes through a splice first where the S wire to the alt (purple) splits off. The neg terminal of the coil goes to a splice where it hooks up to the ESA system (grey wire) and the other grey wire on the neg terminal goes into the big main engine harness. Pin #8. Yours may be all different but that's all I got...

A combo of me and my mom doing the interior work. I rebuilt the wood parys, and used a sewing machine she gave me to do some of the easier parts like the engine cover, back lift panel for Bimini top cover. She did other seats as they are much more complex.

Yea I've checked all wires they seem to be tight and clean.
Mine is a Ford 5.0 electronic ignition carb model.
Mine doesn't seem that way must have changed it I guess but that you. I messed with it more today and nothing. My buddy is gonna tinker with it some. If he can't figure it out I'm taking it to my marine mechanic at $75 an hour :-(. I just want the thing on the water to enjoy what's left of the summer
