I recently purchased a 2006 180 Horizon with the 3.0 Volvo Penta Engine. It came with a 21 pitch prop that appears to be stock on it and I could easily overshoot my max RPM of 4600 short of WOT. Top speed with 2 adults and 1 child on fairly calm water struggled to get over 35mph. I bought a 19 pitch 4 blade prop to use for skiing and I love what it does for the hole shot. It pulls me out of the water on a slalom ski with 4 adults and 1 child but really sacrificed top end speed. 30mph is a struggle for it with this prop and yes I have GPS verified it.

I have not checked the tach for accuracy yet but I am a fairly confident it won't be terribly far off when I do. My question is has anyone every tried a 23 pitch prop on their 3.0? Most of what I read online is that a 21 pitch 3 blade prop provides a top speed of about 40-42mph at 4600 rpm with the stock prop. I am wondering why Im not even close.

Thanks in advance! Love the boat anyway.

I've never been in an 18' boat that wanted to go above about 35mph. The FW website does list ~40mph for that boat, but their spec is usually based on a new, empty, boat. Two factors playing against you might be altitude (you don't say where you boat), and cargo. Maybe with a bit more info we can make some guesses.

Good luck!

Maybe 35 is the top end but I hate not being able to go WOT. Especially sinceI am relying on another driver when I ski!
