Picked up this Four Winns from a coworker's driveway. Has the 150hp Evinrude VRO motor. Got it for next to nothing with the catch that one connecting rod cracked at the piston wristpin. Cylinder walls look ok and it wasn't ran after the crack, so no metal seems to be sheared off in the motor. Captain and passenger seats were replaced with nice new versions, but the rest of the cushions are pretty beat up. Hull, running gear and wiring seems stock and in good shape. I'll be looking for advice on this forum but wanted to introduce my boat first, feel free to offer anything up to be on the lookout for. Thanks! ![]() ![]() |

Interesting Seating arrangement ![]() I wonder what caused the cracked connecting rod? If it cracked without the engine running further, it sounds like it was because of water in the cylinder while attempting to crank with the starter. I'm sure you'll have it all apart to check for bad head gaskets, etc. First thing to check regarding the hull is to check for rotten wood floor and stringers. Still fixable if you do, but that is the biggest factor in seeing how much of a project you have. Fixing rotten floor and stringers can cost $3-5k to have it done. As a do-it-yourself project, you would want to check out jdpber's thead: http://www.smwebhead.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=11136 The engine can always be repaired or replaced with a used engine. Could be a very nice boat after you get it fixed up. Ray |
