Couple of mods

New bunks - got rid of the split 2x4's and replaced with 2x6's, new carpet, and stainless hardware. I also had them extended back ~1.5-2" to give the transom more support. I always thought the original bunks were too short on the back.

I also had the two outboard bunks extended up to the front crossmember, requiring the fabrication of additional brackets. I had some gel coat cracks at the front end of one of the old bunks because they were just too short for this much boat.

Polk DB651's - I sat on these for a year because I didn't think the gray grilles would look right. So I painted them.

The separate tweeters are no longer connected, they're just acting as hole covers at this point. At some point I'll probably take them off and have my fiberglass guy fill the holes. However, they don't look as bad as I was afraid they would.

Finally, every light on the boat and trailer is now LED, except for the bow light which I know everyone is sick of hearing about. But my courtesy lights, stern white light, and the light in the head are now LED. After 5 years, I feel I'm getting close to being done replacing and changing things on this boat.

Unfortunately it won't be getting wet right away; here's our lake, 7' high as of today. The ramp is out there next to the tall light.

Very Nice Work Mike... Now you'll have to sell her and get another "project" :lol:

I wish we had that 7' of water in Lake Ontario. We are still 18-24" below normal levels and the summer hasn't even started yet! Usually by the end of summer the levels have gone down about three feet but also start about 2' above the "norm". I think there will be alot of guys that will be losing props in areas that they think are safe.

Nice job Mike. Do you find she slides a lot better on the new carpet? Has the wider bunks made a difference? I have a H190 and the thing won't get off the trailer unless I float her off. We couldn't get the boat off at one particular ramp - even with full reverse. I was looking at replacing the carpet in the hope the boat doesn't stick so much.

Good call - I like the white grilles better. The silver/gray does stand out a bit.

Love the painted Polks. That is exactly the same reason I have held off. What did you paint them with--they look like they came out perfect. Nice improvements on the trailer as well.

Thanks everyone! I really like the way the speakers turned out. The paint is Krylon Fusion for Plastic, gloss white. No primer or other prep on the grilles, just 3-4 light-moderate coats. Due to the profile of the grilles you have to paint the backs too, since you see the back sides when they're mounted. The Krylon Fusion does an excellent job on these. Up close they look like white powder coated metal. The only issue is that there's almost no clearance between the screw heads and the plastic, and I need to touch up a couple of spots with a brush now that they're installed. If you haven't yet replaced your Clarions with Polks, be aware the screw hole pattern is a bit larger on the Polks and the connectors are smaller. So you'll have to drill new holes and either replace the connectors on the harness or make adapters as I did.

Since I had the bunk work done at fall winterization, we haven't launched since it was done so I'll have to get back to you. In my case, I'm more concerned about the greater bunk surface area making it harder to launch & load. Are you getting your trailer in deep enough? I wouldn't expect new carpet alone to make any difference.

I put the charger on my batteries last night. These are the originals, now 5 years old, and with the new storage unit we use there's no power available so they sat through the longest, coldest winter we've had in 75 years with no charging (I'm lazy when it comes to pulling batteries - it's a pain in this boat). Neither of them were able to charge to more than 73% of capacity. Since we're only on inland lakes, have dual batteries, and always take a jumper pack along (belt and suspenders), I'll get one more season out of them and replace them next spring. These are Interstate dual purpose group 27's and they've been excellent; I'll replace them with the same.

Did I miss something? What did you replace your stern light with. I would like to do the same but haven't found anything. Admittedly I haven't done any serious searching for awhile though.

I didn't replace the whole light, just the bulb. The stock bulb is #906. I replaced it with a WLED-WHP9-T from superbrightleds.com.

Nice job Mike! I see you've also added on the boat buckles, (although you probably covered that topic elsewhere), I'd like to do the same. I have the Four Winns boat buckles and they suck, they've never worked right and have been replaced once with the same result (ratchet mechanisim slips). I like the boat buckle brand, I put a shorty on for my backup noseclip and it works great.

I'm VERY happy with them so far. You MUST use anti-seize on the bolts when installing them. Otherwise, you might not even get them tightened completely before they gall and seize. DAMHIKT.

Nice work. I'm really liking those white polk grilles. I have a pair of brand new db650's that has been sitting in the box for a couple years now because I didn't want grey grilles. I'm thinking if I follow in your footsteps, I can finally rip out the 1605 dual cone Clarion speakers in the bow. Now to find a local supplier of Krylon Fusion Gloss White...
