Ok so the lower water tube has just about pissed me off to the point of no end. I have about mad up my mind to replace the exhaust with a Barr Marine system so that i will have easy access to the spark plugs, better exhaust flow, Gain some power, and overall have a more efficient exhaust than the old omc design..

I am interested in finding more information and if anyone on here has swapped out the omc exhaust for newer system. Any information is appreciated.

I am awaiting an email from Barr Marine with some answers to questions that i have about their system and options.

THANKS ALL

Talk to Deafwish about his Aussie SST risers. I had them quoted once and they were listed at $2500/set (pair), but manufacturer talked to me on the phone and offered $2000/set.

Is yours a Ford 5.0?
I'm going to have to replace my exhaust in about 2 seasons and am going to try to adapt the Merc dry joint design to my 4.3. It will take a pair of later model exhaust pipes used from the 94/98 V6 models because these use a 4" hose on the riser end and a 3.5" hose on the y pipe end.

per Brad @ Barr Marine

Manifold PN# FM-1-83
Riser 4" PN# 20-0100
Riser 3" PN# 20-0082

and I should see a 5-7% gain over stock so that would be a 15.75Hp gain or bump the block power to 236-240Hp based off of a fully stock motor.

SIDE BAR i am planning to do a few other things: full MSD ignition to smooth things out and help eliminate the fouled plugs from excess idling, higher flow intake and aftermarket marine performance intake, all in combination with a new map curtesy of my mustang buddy. I think if he can make over 1,000hp out of his 351 he is legitimate to help me wake up this 302 a bit. SHOPPING for deals has begun.

MORE hunting on MANIFOLDS continues

I had a filter custom spec'd to K&N but have not heard back from them... I'll call again and see if I can get a price. Was the largest filter I measured to fit in the tiny opening we have.

Other then the performance gain, what' the advantage of the Barr over stock?

Which MSD box? I am ordering an MSD Blaster TFI coil to see if that will help why it is hard to start after sitting for more then 15 minutes when hot.

The 5.0 and 5.8 Ford OMC/Volvo engines with the stock manifolds are a bear to change plugs. I found this flex socket to work a lot better.

Trying to use a standard spark plug socket and universal joint just didn't get it.
