Hi Everyone,

New to the forum. I have a 2005 Horizon 200 with a Mercury 5 litre mpi engine . The boat has 250 hours. The boat runs great but just recently began stalling when idling . The marina checked the IAC and said that is not the problem. The marina says it is the fuel pump and the engine has to be removed in order to access the fuel pump. $$$ . Does anyone know if the engine actually has to be removed to service the fuel pump?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

poky1234

Hi Poky1234

The fuel pump on a Mercruiser 5.0L MPI is in a difficult place to access. It's down the bottom on the starboard side of the engine (behind the water pump). I have a Sundowner (not Horizon) and was able to replace it without pulling the engine - but it was difficult...

BTW Mercruiser had lots of problems with their Gen3 "cool fuel" pumps installed from about 2003-2006. Have a look at this post http://www.smwebhead.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11917

Also, problems with idle is usually the IAC valve. Faulty fuel pump is usually cutting out at higher revs, or hard to start (also a faulty IAC valve symptom). IAC valve aren't expensive and only 2 bolts to replace it...

Good luck
