Post subject:  Wake tower flex wobble and shake

Hi all, first post here. I'm the happy new owner of a 2008 H210 Frenzy.
It has a wake tower, which I'm assuming is the factory Four Winns / XTP unit.

I don't have a lot of experience with wake towers. This one has a good bit of flex to it.
It's mostly side-to-side flex when you wiggle it.
I'm sure it's strong pulling back with a ski rope, but I'm surprised at all the wiggling and wobbling side to side.

Does this sound normal for the factory tower? I also see a small amount of spidering in the gelcoat around each mount point.
Nothing crazy, but definitely some small spider cracks.

I'm wondering if this tower had a bimini before?
There's several loops and mount points that currently serve no purpose...

These speakers are just stupid loud...
Thinking I'll swap them out for something a bit more subtle, and not so in the way. ;-)

Actually, the weight and wind drag of those speakers may be contributing to the flex issues. Those are too damn big in my opinion. Wetsounds offers some big sounds with small profile speakers though as you already have the amps and wiring done for them. ...sell those to a kid and kick that money to new ones.

Nice looking boat there. ....do some shaking and see where wabble is....all towers flex some though. I have the reverse arch single piece tower, which eliminates alot of flex as there's no folding points. ...the draw back is it doesn't fold.

Yours is style they offered though so sure it has proper backing supports.....don't use tower to tube though....too much drag. It's for boarding and skis...use rear tow took for tubes

Thanks for the reply!
Yeah, they are ridiculous large speakers. We have to duck around them.
And pretty heavy, that would cause more shakes for sure.

My factory tower has a decent amount of side to side flex. It's rock solid when pulling on it. However, I don't have any signs of stress in my gelcoat thus far... knock on wood. I just assumed it was designed to flex more at the top to prevent from over stressing the fiberglass. But that is purely an assumption on my part. I don't have any speakers on my tower, so I cannot speak to that aspect of it.

Congrats on the new boat! Enjoy and be safe!

If you want to sell the speakers I could be interested in taking them off of your hands.

Yep!

Have you checked the bolts and the backing plate?

And, yes, that tower originally came with a bimini top built-in. It was probably removed to accommodate those crazy speakers! I do find that I need to re-tighten my mounting bolts every couple of seasons. This year I'm trying to source those rubber pads that sit between the tower and the fiberglass. Mine are dry and cracking.

Enjoy the new toy!

You want that Bimini back I'm sure. ..just got off lake after 7 hours on water in close to 100 degree sun. ...had the top opened and was very nice in shade with the breeze. I will get the Wetsounds one day.
