anyone run a 4 prop on their boat?

I just picked up a amata 4 prop for my boat this week, 14.25 x 19 . I have a 3 blade now but wanted to pick up a spare just in case anything would happen. I know the new prop will rip a skier right out of the water with ease. I'm gonna lose some top end but not worried about that. I hardly run WOT. We just cruise around 23 -25 mph most of the time. Anyone have any experience with a 4 blade prop?

Just make sure your RPM at WOT still falls within the recommended range. Otherwise, congrats on your new prop!

I switched to a 4 blade last year. Went from a 14.5" X 19P 3 blade aluminum to a 14.5" X 17P 4 blade.
My RPM was on the low end with the 3 blade and is now in the middle of the recommended range for my engine at WOT.
I have not noticed much loss of speed at WOT if at all. The boat gets up on plane faster, and seems like it holds plane better at low speeds. For me and my boating habits it was a good move.
I did have to grind a little clearance into my "fin" anode for the 4 blade prop, but it wasn't a big deal at all.

I had a 14 x 21p HR Titan 4 on my RS (almost identical to yours) and that used to pull 4650RPM, trimmed right out.
Your engine is standard & you state that you don't go flat out, so you should be fine. :wink:

Changed to a 4 blade recently (14.5 x 17p) and it seems to get on plane quicker. The ride definitely feels smoother and the speed is more stable if that makes sense. I like it!

Well fellas ran the boat all weekend with the Solas Amita 4 aluminum prop, 14.25 x 19 .

I love it.. as stated by others, smother running and real quick to plane. boat feels like a sports car handles great at lower to mid range speeds. We mainly cruise at 2500 rpm and it felt very nice. I give it an A. I never ran WOT to see top end but our style doesn't really have us running at that.

You need to check the RPM range at WOT just to make sure it falls within the recommended range even if you will not be seeing top speed on a regular basis. Being over-propped as indicated by not being able to reach the recommended RPM range at WOT can be bad for the engine.

what GottWhat is saying is that even though you like your cruise speed you could be low on the rpm to speed ratio for that cruise and holding the plane thus working the motor harder.

Ya, I will have her back out on the lake friday morning, I will run her at WOT and check it out. should be pretty close or spot on. I also run a 3 blade 14.25 X 21 ALUM and it puts me at 4600 rpm. The shop took it out last week and they said everything ran great. I will see for myself. lol Thanks Guys.

I have to ask Toddely......your boat has the 5.7 and is 18'... .it should pull the ass out of an elephant as it was setup....where you having issues with stock setup that prompted the 4 blade swap or did you just run across a deal.

It ran fine, I have a buddy that has the same motor and drive and he has the 4 blade prop. His boat feels like its turbo charged when he takes off. lol so I found a great price for the same prop. $124 so I ordered me one so I could see how it felt and after reading the reviews I really like how it feels. I actually nicked a rock a couple weeks ago with my 3 blade prop and bent just the tip of the prop, I bent it back into shape and decided to keep it just for a back up. So thats why I decided to try the 4 blade as well. We pull tubers and skiers from time to time and I figured it would be help out as well.

As far as the 5.7 GL in the boat its carb motor. Its actually rated at 215 HP. Its a big motor but considering that the 4.3L motors are putting out 220Hp, the 5.7 is def heavier.
