I'm not sure if they fit older model boats, but Four Winns has a new option out for boaters... rear facing speakers for all you party animals! From what I understand, there is a retrofit option and you can order the new back covers and speakers from Four Winns... Cost is a couple hundred bucks (300 or so).

I'm not entirely sold... what does everyone else think?

Very interesting! Seems like the designers are still looking for ways to maximize features without cutting into storage space, which is a leading reason why people like FW boats. And, I for one like the look.

Having said all that, they are going to get water in them, and I wonder how useful they really are. It wouldn't be a bad thing to be able to get, maybe even without the speakers, for the folks who like to build up their own sound systems. My opinion should be taken with a grain of salt, since I'm one of the people who, when hangin' out on the porch or swimming around the boat, mostly just wants peace and quiet.

Is that price for both doors, or just one?

I think it's a good idea, then you can sit off the back of the boat without needing to crank the music, but I agree with the concern of them taking on water. I suppose it's a lower cost alternative than adding a wakeboard tower with the tube speakers.

My speakers are down low and virually useless if you want to hear music outside of the boat.

Deosnt really do it for me...they are aiming at the sky and if you were in the water behind the boat, you probably wouldnt be getting much sound from it. Plus they seem to take away from the smooth lines of the rear of the boat

I love good (and at times) loud music as much as the next guy but I'm not sold on these. They really do take away from the smooth style of the boat. I actually thought about installing wakeboard can speakers UNDERNEATH that gullwing door which would only be visible and useable when they were popped up. Just for the situation where the real party calls for it. However, these might prevent people from constantly trying to board my boat by stepping on these storage doors which always ends in a dangerous, albeit sometimes funny, dunk right off the back of the boat. No matter how many times I tell people, "don't step there", someone tries and there is always a nasty wipe out!

And what in the world is up with that vinyl color??? Bluagh!

Does anyone know of a reputable dealer that I could purchase these from and have shipped to my address?

My dealer doesn't deal with part orders very often and is unfamiliar with this particular part.

I ordered mine through Ryan at Winnisquam marine. You can order with or without speakers so you can put in something other than Sony if you want. I haven't had time to in stall mine yet. I need to find a way to match up the holes on the hinges. My local dealer could get them too but they said I couldn't get them without speakers. I already had other speakers in mind so I went through Winnisquam.

What did you do (or will you do) with the support arm for the hatch? It would seem to be mounted right at where the speaker is located....

Here's a less expensive option - removable pod speakers, another fine idea 'borrowed' from txjole2.

There is no support arm. The doors are just hinged and flop open on the sunpad.

Not for me...

I know that part of my 260 gets wet... I stow fenders on the starboard side (under that very hatch) and lines on the port side under the swim pad. All that throwing around of stuff would tank in teh speakers fairly quickly. Crank it up, I say!

Jim_R,

Can you provide some details on that speaker set-up. That is exactly what I am thinking of doing, but have not really started to getting my head around the details. Once outside the boat the music needs to be very loud to bearly hear it and inside the boat is too loud.

What brand/type are the speakers?
How did you wire up the jacks?
Did you ad an amp?
Etc?
Etc?

Thanks,
Todd
