When we found our boat, it had just been re-powered, and the guy I bought it off of said all the gauges worked great.....the first trip down river I lost the trim gauge, and then the depth gauge....I started researching the issues, and this site really helped out. I put up with the flukes and inconsistencies of the design, all the while trying to figure out my next step. This winter, while it sits on the trailer wrapped, I took the gauge panel out and started to figure my next move. I looked at pictures of what others have done, and figured I go the route of building my own panel...

Then I saw the auction for this:

So I offered the seller an amount and I bought it...It looks to have the same color wiring scheme as the VDO cluster...

It should be an easy wire up....one I decide what style and gauge type I want to put in there...I'm going to sand down the material and paint it so it looks better....

Thanks....I was looking for an affordable (cheap) solution that looked pretty good....I am envious of those that build their own and they look better than factory...My wood working skills would have resulted in a 2X4 screwed across the opening with gauges nailed to it.....much happier this way.

The guy I bought it off said the cluster came out of a '94 Freedom 170. I eyeballed the size against the cluster in my boat, and took a chance. surprised myself how good it looks as a drop in solution.

That's going to look great with a new coat of plastic/vinyl paint on it.

The "13" down by the fire extinguisher (13 person capacity) reminded me that you have a Horizon 240. How many hours did you get to use it this summer?
I just re-read your intro post: http://www.smwebhead.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=14831&start=0#p142886

Similar dash to my 1999 225 Sundowner. I had no reliability issues with the VDO cluster, seems I was lucky, but it was impossible to see when standing up. If I had to have replaced it, I'd have made a panel that sat a lot further forward in the binnacle, maybe angled upwards by 10- 20 degrees.

Rpengr: we got about 45 hours (if I remember my hour meter I just looked at this past weekend). Many trips down river to Newburyport for lunch, and swimming in the Merrimack...we even trailered it back to it's former home of Lake Winnipesaukee for a long weekend

Lunch in Newburyport...tie up at the public dock, there's a "valet" there to control access to the dock, and you can go eat and wander around for cheaper than a parking space....
