Looking at buying my first boat and have found a 2006 Horizon 220 that I am interested in. It has around 225 hours on the 5.7 Gi/SX 280 HP engine and the rest of the boat (hull, vinyl, etc.) seem to be in good shape. I'd like to hear from people who have experience with the 2006 H220 (or the other 22 foot FW boats from the same time frame). I am just curious how the floor plan etc. has worked out for people. Thanks for any info you can share.

I think the H220 is about the perfect size (at least for me and my family/friends). The H240 is bigger and heavier, but really does not add any seating due to the inclusion of a head compartment. There are days that I wish I had the H240 just for the weight in rough weather, but those days are rare. Every time I start looking at other boats, I keep coming back to the one I've already got.

Just one man's opinion.

Take care!

It's similar to other makes of the same time frame & size, which is to say that they're a great boat but won't comfortably seat as many people as the safety placard implies. By 2006 we were well into the era of "sun pads, sinks, wrap-arounds etc." at the expense of capacity. The people you have aboard will be more comfortable but you won't have room for as many of them, compared to a 22' boat say, 10 years older. All that plushness can also make some maintenance tasks more difficult if you plan to do your own work.

Overall they're terrific boats. Pay careful attention to the condition of the trailer too. If it's a steel trailer that's ever been used in salt water, assume it's nearing end of life. If the tires are over 5 years old they're due for replacement no matter how good they may look.

Whatever happens, keep us posted and welcome to the forum. Where will you be boating?

The boat will be getting used in the freshwater of New Hampshire. The boat was sold and serviced by the dealership that I am working with and they believe that the boat has been in freshwater only. The trailer appeared to be in good condition as well but will need further inspection when the boat is pulled out of storage and cleaned up.

I had looked at a 2004 H210 that was a 22 footer and I really liked the floorplan of that boat which is the same as the 2006 H220 I am looking at. I am 6'3" and am able to stretch my legs completely out in the bow of the boat, which is awfully nice and unlike the 2014 H210 we took out last year. I have seen a couple of comments here and there about the helm seat being a bit tight due to the u-shaped seating, but when I sat there, it seemed to be okay.

All this boat talk is getting us excited for the summer.

IMO the mid-2000's FW boats are hard to beat, but I'm biased. If you haven't already, certainly insist on a sea trial (of this or any boat you consider). There are things that don't become obvious until you're on the water. Good luck!

I love my 2005 210, which is essentially the same boat as your 2006 220, I believe. Naming changed between those years. The layout is great. I love the U-shaped seating. We rarely use the filler cushions for the walk-through unless we are pushing 10 people on board. We get lots of compliments on the boat. Storage space is very good as well. Overall, I think you made a great choice!
