Hello everyone... I've got a 2007 210, and I'd like to mount a Humminbird 859 HD DI that I'd like to put in the boat. In my old boat, I was able to fit a Ram mount on the dash at the helm, but I can't find room for it on the FW. Does anyone else have a similar size unit mounted? Thanks!

Cap'n - How useful is it to you down there? Seems like I'd spend more time looking down than out.

You have limited options .
1.) mount down low as shown .
2.) Buy a suction RAM mount and put on windshield next to dash.
3.) Buy a Ram mount w/clamp and mount to the windshield support (will be flimsy)
4.) Ditch the cubby hole and flush mount the unit.

I have the suction RAM mount on the windshield as the Cap'n recommends. It's very solid especially for a plastic windshield, but I am just holding an iPad mini.

robopath, Which Ram mount are you using?

I found a picture with my Humminbird Helix 5 DI GPS... Not the best pic but that's all I have on hand at the moment.

That's actually a perfect solution. Didn't think of just mounting the bracket right to the dash. I think mine is a bit bigger than that, but I may just go with the smaller unit.

Camrox, did you put a grommet in the dash to run the cables straight down? I'm a little concerned about tearing up the fabric.

I run Navionics with the USA+ yearly add-on. One tip for you, if you have an iPhone and iPad is to get the iPhone version not the HD iPad version. You can 2X zoom the iPhone version on your iPad and they end up being very close to the same detail. It's cheaper up front, then it's $5 per year instead of $25, and more importantly you can have two devices that can run it. Having it always in my pocket came in very handy once on an irresponsible friends boat at night...

Yes I used a plastic grommet in the hole. I also used a rubber spacer under one side of the bracket to level it. I figured the gps will go with the boat when I sell it so making holes in the dash wasn't too scary :)

I assume it must not restrict your view too bad? What did you use to make the hole without damaging the fabric?

It does restrict the view a bit when sitting on the low position on the seat but not enough to be an annoyance. I made the hole from under the dash with a 3/4 or 1" wood dril bit (with a flat and pointy end if that makes sense..). Don't remember the size exactly but its small enough not to let the ferrule on the 12v wire pass thru it, useful to keep the wire from falling when I remove the gps unit between uses.
