So I've been pulling my old Bayliner around with an 02 Tundra with the 4.7L V8. My newer 19' Horizon is about the same weight, so I assume that it will pull about the same. The problem is that I'm bored of the Tundra, and I'm thinking about getting an FJ Cruiser (4.0 V6) or maybe an Infiniti FX45 (4.5L V8). Does anyone pull a Horizon around with either of these trucks, or a Tacoma/4Runner with the V6? The Tundra is rated 276hp/313ft-lb, the FJ is 239/278 and the FX is 315/329. (Seems like the FX would be the best)

Also considering a Titan or possibly a newer Tundra with the 5.7L, but I know both of those will have no problems.

I pull a 22' Horizon with an 06' Tacoma with the V6, 3" lift and 32" tires...and no other mods to compensate. All in all, I wish I had a tad more power for conquering big hills while im on the highway, but besides that it performs pretty good. I've never had a problem at a ramp and have been to some pretty steep ramps. I can cruise at 65 and stopping power is not a problem.

I think you'd be fine with an FJ Cruiser. I guess a large component of the question is how far you travel with your boat... short distances no problem - long distances - you'll never go wrong with a truck with a longer wheelbase.

I think a new Tundra is overkill. 381hp! It's a beast!

I will tow my H240 with my '07 Yukon... the boat dwarfs the car already - but it seems fine. I'm 6k loaded up (at least) - and it doesn't have too many problems.

Yeah, well the new Tundra is last on my list... its a little larger than I want, but damn its a nice truck. I just don't want to drop that kind of cash on something I will beat up.

Toyota has mentioned building an FJ pickup, similar to what they showed at SEMA. Now THAT would probably fit the bill... add a supercharger to the V6 and I would have no problems going uphill. :)

I tow may 18' with an Explorer, which works out Ok. Since I have the V6, I wouldn't tow anything bigger.

I have a similar setup to Paradise. 22' Horizon. 2005 Tacoma double cab v6 manual. And about the same conclusions. I always take my time on the big hills anyway, so extra power isn't really a concern.

btw: Nice truck Paradise!

2006 Ford Territory Ghia - RWD, 4 liter in line 6, same sort of size as BMW X5 - unique to Australia and an absolutely fantastic tow vehicle.

I pull my H190 single axle trailer with my 97 nissan pathfinder 4x4. It pulls okay but i wish I had more power, could be the 160+/- hp or it could be its 11 years old with 270,000 miles.... Im looking at getting a four runner next. I used to have a searay srv200 glass over plywood and that thing was mega heavy and the path pulled it also.....

You're right about the new Tundra. It would be way more truck than it sounds like you want.

I actually ended up buying an '04 Titan Crew 4x4 with the Big Tow package for $18,000. The thing only had 15,000 miles on it and still smells new! I pulled the old Bayliner with it already and I could barely tell it was back there... a big change from the Tundra!
