Good morning everyone.

The throttle on our 2007 H210 is very tight. How do I go about adjusting the tension?

Thanks!

You can try adjusting the friction brake screw. Remove the throttle arm first, then you will discover a screw near the top left corner (in my h200 this screw is partially hidden by the vinyl side panel and is difficult to access without a special screwdriver). Try backing it off a little.

Do note that if your cable is original, it may just be getting stiff. They do that and need to be replaced every 5-7 years typically.

I bought the boat used, but I'm sure it is the original, and it's a 2007. Is that something a guy can do himself fairly easy or is it better to take it to a mechanic?

Try the friction screw first... that is easy. The cable is harder.. I believe you have to affix the new one to the end of the old one and use it to pull it through. If it comes unattached midway you're screwed... lol... Also the cable length is critical. You have to get the right one. It should be marked on the outside of the cable. For my h200, I bet it is easier to change the throttle cable than the steering one, as the steering one connects way deep in the back under fiberglass and is harder to access. All this coming from someone who's thought about changing one but never actually has... I feel like my steering is tighter than it should be, but its not bad enough for me to take action yet...

I have a 2007 H190, and last summer my throttle was very hard to move. I am not as mechanical as most of you guys, so I took it to my mechanic, who changed the throttle cable. It was the original cable. When he took it out, he kept it to show me. It was so stiff, we couldn't move it with pliers, and one of us holding the cable and one holding the outer sheath. He said to me, how was your throttle even working? It must have been very hard to use. Now the throttle moves like butter. :D

Neither one of my cables has ever moved like butter, even when the boat was delivered to me from the factory. Additionally the steering wheel has always had a good 30 degrees of slop in it from the factory. By this I mean when changing directions of the wheel it has to go 30 degrees either way first to 'catch'. Dealer told me that was normal for Four Winns boats. My old FW freedom did not have any slop that I can remember.. Not having another '07 H200 to compare it to, I'll never know if that's the way it was designed...

My steering has a lot of slop as well. I couldn't say 30 degrees though. Not sure how much slop there is, but it is noticeable, and a little aggravating.
