97 H220 Finding some rot that allowed the screws to separate from the hinge. Before I pull back the carpet, wondering if anyone as run into this and what am I going to encounter pulling back the carpet. Seems like there is a block of wood to anchor the screws. Can this be replaced? |

this is a shot of the doubler (sp) they used when fixing mine up....more photos if you dig through that flickr stream....I'm guessing once you start digging it will be a little more involved but nothing that can't be done.  IMG_1775.JPG by Jon Miller, on Flickr

Thanks Jon Thats exactly what I wanted to see. Looked like a nice project...other areas of rot? What did it cost for the plywood and flooring run? |

I did a job like that, about 10 years ago on my H-200. It's held up well and is still solid. Depending on how far the rot goes, it can be an extensive job. I had to use the services of a 'glass shop to help with the stringer repairs that I had to do first, before I could do the deck. I did the demo work and dug out all the foam and re-installed the foam and the new deck and gas tank mounts myself. I had the glass shop 'glass the new deck in non skid gelcoat. I sealed all this with 3M 4200. With no carpet when the deck gets wet, it dries out fast. With the carpet, it would stay damp under the rear bench seat for months. And that's where the worst of it started, under the rear seat and right where the screws were that held the pedestal mounts to the deck. One good thing about rebuilding your own boat, is you can actually build it better than production boats! |

I told them I wanted a 5 year fix not a new boat....once they pulled everything up it really didn't look that bad, it was soft around the locker, but most of the damage was under the aft seat over the fuel tank. After watching them do it I am confident I could have done it......that said it was just south of $1500, I removed and reinstalled the interior which saved a few bucks I suppose. He said the two piece covers allow water to enter at the walk through and soak the whole interior, so they see the same rot problem on all four winns....with a single piece cover I am able to keep everything dry. I got what I wanted out of it, no perfect but solid and looks good. My next boat will have snap in carpeting. |
