hello, question i have a 95 omc v8 cobra 5.8 351 with a cobra outdrive, i just busted the outdrive to shit, but my buddy has a king cobra from a chevy 350 omc is it compatible? will his king cobra fit on my 351 5.8 cobra motor? please help...thnx |

It depends on which year that Chevy 350 OMC King Cobra is.... If yours is really a '95 engine/drive package then the drive is the same as a Volvo SX outdrive. The issue here is that the drive ratios must be the same. So you need to find out what the drive ratio was for your engine/drive and then try to find an early Volvo SX drive with the same ratio. The joint venture drives (1994-1998) had the hump on the top exactly like a Volvo SX not flat across the top like the pure OMC dog clutch units. OMC called a number of different things the King Cobra... 1) the pure OMC dog clutch drive paired with certain engines...ie Chevy 350 with through the transom exhausts.... 2) the Baby King paired with the Ford 460 (dog clutch, larger V8 out board lower unit) 3) the Daddy King (Cone Clutch drive, paired with GM big block engines and Ford 5.8s, and NOT the same as the Volvo style SX). None of these 3 above will work with your engine package, assuming it is really a 1995 (sometimes boat builders installed a left over package that is older than the year of the boat)….. Post a pic of your drive and your friend's then I can say for sure. |
