The first thing I did on my H240 was to remove the porta-potty. No one was gonna do you know what on my new boat and expect me to deal with mess later  I use the space for dry storage. I have a ice chest that fits the depressed foot print and have 2 mesh beach bags for our towels, clothes and what ever else she brings. I also mounted my stereo amplifier in this space. I am wondering if anyone has built an organizer or custom shelving for the ex-potty closet and if so do you have pictures? Am I the only mean guy out there that makes everyone hold it until we get to shore?

First I've heard of anyone buying a 240 and then saying no one will ever use the head under any circumstances. But, that's a lot of storage space if that's your preference. I presume you didn't have it plumbed for pump-out? It really becomes a non-issue if you have that.

Yeah Mike, my boat did'nt have the pump out head, I had the little suit case that you would bring home, dump, and clean after a day of being out. Seemed like a bad way to end a good day. For us, using the space for storing food and various other items we want to keep dry and have access to makes far more sense. I am intrested in the people who have used this space in a similar manner and what they did to better organize or improve it for storage. Glad to be the first H240 owner you heard of that did not use the enclosed head.

I'm with you on that. The suitcase method (nice description BTW) was NOT gonna happen for me, either. FYI, if you ever decide later on that a head would be nice, they can add the pumpout option and it works well.

Are you merry, have children or have many lady friends? ... I do not think I can get away with not having one for emergency… Although I always encourage people too not to use but if we have one just incase we would score…….
I have a pump out one but not planning to use much so typically the head compartment is storage for bags. But for emergency for ladies… you will be a popular person…

Wow, never thought of dragging around a suitcase full of tu*)$ for lack of a better description. I guess that would be a nasty way to end the day - especially if you launch from your own dock as I do - then what am I supposed to do with it? Carry it through the house to the restroom hoping not to trip over the the dog?
For me the enclosed head would be the most attractive feature of having something as large as a 240. The ability to go all the way to the end of the lake into the rafting coves and not having to return until sundown. Never gave much thought as to what I would do with it when I got home. Ah well I guess nothing in life comes easy - certainly no the luxury of a beautiful 240!
This is why I ask so many seemingly stupid questions - I want to limit the instances of find myself standing at the end of the dock saying oooooh, wait a minute - DAMMIT!

No questions are stupid. The only drawback with the pumpout is that you have to have a place to have it pumped. Most full service marinas have pumpouts but we have a lake or two around here where there is none. And you can't take it to an RV place because the fittings are different on boats.

Anyway, I think I took this thread off-topic. Sorry.

I've got a porta-potti related question and figured I would add it to this thread rather than starting new one. I've got a pump-out head similar to the one pictured here:

What in heck is that "gas cap" looking thing on the floor used for. I haven't had a chance to spend much time looking at how the porta-potti works and getting mine into working order, but I was looking at some of the on-line documentation and could not see what that cap was used for.

Thanks.

I believe that is the plug if you ever want to disable the "pump out" capabilities of the Porta Pottie.

I laugh when I look at how crappy(pardon the pun) the porta potties are made. Sit on a bucket of plastic and then you literally "open the flood gates" the flusher is no better than a squirt gun...

Interesting question about the cap, I never thought about it. It's not pictured or mentioned in the owners manual for the 735 MSD. And yeah, it's no throne, but it works :) .

Cougar:
Come to think of it. I have used my 7 years old boy`s squirt gun to clean up that $%&T once….. I do not like to use it often and I would never offer to my in-laws to use ….. I am planning to make some kind of platform on top of porta-potti to cover it up so we can use as a daily storage and stack few bags neatly and if there is an emergency we can dig it out and use the porta-potti.

I believe that cap would plug the hole of the lower section which contains your "output" when you detach it from the top half. Those porta potties are in two sections and there is a release on the back. you can remove the top half which is basically the bowl and water tank for "flushing". If you don't have the pump out out then you plug the hole and carry it off. If you have the pump out the lower half is attached to the hoses.

I think I'm correct. Mine is strictly used for the ladies when dipping in the water is not an option. It really comes in handy for that but I wish it was bigger!

Cincy, I think you're right about the cap also.

Yes, when you disconnect the pump out hose from the base you use the cap to plug the opening so you don't get splashed when you carry it out of the boat. My 230, which I just sold, had one and I used it at the end of the season when I gave the potty a proper cleaning. Not the must fun job, but not too bad either as long as you make sure no one left you a #2 in there.
