Does anyone know what summerizing a 190 entails. I dont want to spend the money to have a shop do it if it's an easy proceedure. I am sumwhat mechanically enclined so im not afraid of a little work. |

If all of the maintenance was done at the time of winterization, you should just need to install the battery, put the muffs on, turn on the water, and start it up. There shouldn't be too much else that needs to be done. |

It's important to know whether it was winterized with anti-freeze or not, and if so, whether it was pink stuff or green stuff. If it was winterized dry, put the batteries in, make sure she starts, do any other needed maintenance (impeller, anodes, etc.), and go. If winterized with pink stuff (propylene glycol), you ought to run it on muffs to flush it out in the street or someplace where it won't kill your grass (but it's not good to just flush it in the lake no matter what people tell you). If winterized with green stuff (ethylene glycol), it's straight-up toxic and should be collected and recycled properly, same as if you were draining the radiator in your car. |

I like to check everything, drive oil level, engine oil level, trim fluid level. Make sure the engine and manifold drains are in tight. Check hose clamps that may have been removed during winterization. After I start the engine and burn off the fogging oil, I check the spark plugs and see if they need to be replaced. Same with the distributor cap. I take a look at the oil filter and the water seperating filter and make sure they don't leak. I also take a telescoping mirror and look around the engine to make sure nothing else is leaking. Check the battery cables for tightness and corrosion. When the engine is running I check the charging voltage, distributor dwell and timing (I have an old style points and condenser ignition). I also check the drive belts and tension. With the prop OFF, I check the shifting of the sterndrive with the engine running. Before I reinstall the prop I grease the propshaft with OMC/Bombardier triple guard grease. The steering ram gets some too, the actuator gets greased as does the gimble bearing. Basically go over all the points in the owners manual, and don't forget to check the bilge pump! |
