There are two screws that protrude out (apparently) too far from the back and have worn at least one hole in my exhaust Y-pipe which now gives Lake Erie a convenient way of getting into the boat. These have been cut down. Must have been engine vibration over the years rubbing with these screws or the engine “buck” backwards and puncture it.

The hole is fairly low and difficult to get too. But my question, what is the best repair? I am researching some Permatex exhaust repair which is resistant up to 1000-deg F. The kit includes some patches which to apply.

A new pipe is about $300 and I am sure labor won’t be too forgiving unless I do it myself.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for any support,
Jim

Sorry to say it, but I think it would be negligent to suggest doing anything other than replacing the pipe. If nothing else, won't you always wonder whether or not the patch is holding?
