The bow anchor in my boat is stored flat under the small seat up front. Last season, whenever I anchored, I would pull out all the rope (50') & chain (6'), then the anchor and reverse the process for storage. A few times I ended up with a knotted up mess.

I'm wondering if others with this same setup do something different for rope storage that takes away some of the hassle.

Buy a cruiser with a windlass  .

Any solution may be dependent on where you boat. I know everyone says you MUST use chain, but around here you really don't need it with a bow rider and the right anchor. I use a Chene anchor and no chain, and have never had a problem. Even that doesn't address the tangled rope issue; I have no suggestions on that other than to hank it as neatly as possible.

No matter what I try or how much I talk about it, I still throw the 100' of rope in a plie after a long day on the water to worry about it next time.

Being of the Nautical background (between my last boat, sailing, and the Navy) I actually use a "knot" that is quick and easy to stow flat. By feeding the line through correctly, one end can be tied off, with the anchor on the other, and the rest unfurl.

By doing it this way, it also alleviates the twisting that the line gets when rolling it up, and eliminates "memory". It can be easily folded, or rolled into a small space without getting tangled.

Have anchor, need cruiser

I'll post some pictures tomorrow, but maybe my gear is too heavy duty. It's what the dealer threw in when I bought the boat, so I wouldn't be suprised.

We primarily anchor in sand/muck, gravel, and weeds and the danforth style has worked well and it fits into the storage perfectly.

Prior to buying my 220H, I used one of these in my old 1970's I/O:

It allows you to hold the center handle while playing out the rode. Holds lots of rope and is cheap.
