Well we hit the 21 hour mark on our new 2006 203FS.

Called Phil Dill here in the DFW area to schedule, they want me to drop the boat off there for up to two weeks (during the height of season). This sounds insane for them to take that long. Then they said running it a few more hours (30) will not affect anything.

What is the consensus? Should I continue on or stop and take in.

can I have an independent do the work? Options?

It's the 4th weekend and I have 5 days and want to play.

Scott

I am in the same boat (so to speak) :D
I have 15 hrs and headed into a 7 day boating adventure.
I'm not going to fret it, but will check all fluids very carefully.

Why not have an independent do it as long as all the 20 hr items are completed. I did the 20 hr service n both the engines in my 288 Vista.

Other than service items that I just don't want to do such as a drive alignment (damn Duoprops are heavy!) I do the maintenance myself.

I have never had the dealer question me or Volvo ask who did what when.

Thanks for the replies... think we will not worry about it, I'll do everything except the alignment. I notice that it states in owner responsibilties in manual that you need to take to dealer. Can't imganie that this wuld be an issue.

Now which lake(s) this weekend is teh only question. :D

Personally I'd want to know that the selling dealer did the 20 hour service, just for documentation CYA. But I don't think it's critical that it be done at exactly 20 hours.

I did my "20h" service at the end of the season last year. with about 30 hrs. I took it to Phil Dill and no one made any coments about being over 20h. I also factored in the fact that I didin't want to do all the 20h stuff and then come back a few hours later to winterize. That will not be your situation though.
Also Phil Dill goes by the "drop it off and we will get to it " model which is kind of a problem. It seems that making appointments and only keeping the boat for a few days would be more effiicient. But they have been around for a while, so I guess it works for them.

Well, you generally want to get the oil used during break-in out of the engine and replace the filters. We took our 348 in at 24 hours. On taking delivery afterward I notice a slight shimmy on acceleration. They pulled the boat thinking it was something fouling the prop (creek, storm the day before, etc). Found the zinc on the starboard prop shaft (inboards) was loose and had slid down. That and ALL SIX of the engine mounts had loosened to less than finger tight (one actually dropped a nut).

Fortunately Ryan, the service tech at Riverside in Essex, got right to work on it and had us back out on the water in about 2 hours.

So make sure they do more than just change the oil.

Dropped it off today with a list of "warranty" fixes and the 20 hour. Actually endded up at 28 hours with the 4th weekend.

Faster Daddy - Phil dill does need to adjust that, they told me 2 weeks before, now it is a week. we will see how it goes.

The "list" stuff is pretty extensive. let's see how they handle it.

How much does the 20-hr dealer service cost in your areas? I am paying $150 + parts (the 150 is for labor), but I do not know the total yet.

$150 here too, but we haven't taken it in yet.

What about doing the 20hr service early?

What actually gets checked at the 20 hour checkup? Is there a list?
